About the Role

The University of Oklahoma is seeking a highly skilled Laboratory Research Manager to join our team at the Stephenson Cancer Center. As a key member of our research team, you will be responsible for managing a basic science research laboratory and developing strategic goals to meet the department's needs.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operational Management: Oversee the development and implementation of laboratory operational policies and procedures, ensuring the department has the necessary infrastructure and resources to perform effectively.
  • Inventory Control: Establish and maintain an inventory control system for supplies and equipment, ensuring timely and efficient work orders for lab maintenance.
  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement strategic goals for the growth of the basic science research labs, managing projects to achieve financial, quality, service, and operational goals.
  • Research and Development: Develop methodologies and procedures for biomedical applications, analyze data, and present findings to the scientific audience and general public.
  • Project Management: Plan, develop, and manage projects in support of departmental clinical and research missions, ensuring greater integration and effectiveness of activities.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Serve as a key facilitator between operating laboratories, researchers, and principal investigators to enhance and develop cross-functional research interactions and opportunities.
  • Facilities Management: Assist with planning, developing, and managing projects related to laboratory facilities, including program analysis and potential sponsored funding.
  • Training and Development: Plan, develop, and maintain training programs for Lab Technicians and Researchers, ensuring a safe working environment.
  • Reporting and Analysis: Provide regular progress reports to management, summarizing project results, risks, and queries related to laboratory performance.
Requirements
  • Education: Master's degree in a Biological Science, Chemistry, Physical Science, or related field.
  • Experience: 60 months of experience working in a basic science research facility/laboratory, with 24 months of experience as a senior-level supervisor and/or leadership role in a research laboratory.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree: Master's degree in Biological Sciences.
  • Experience in Cancer Research: 4-8 years of experience in cancer research and 2-4 years of experience in laboratory management.
Skills and Abilities
  • Laboratory Safety: Advanced knowledge of laboratory safety and Federal, State, and University guidelines.
  • Leadership and Supervision: Ability to train and supervise.
  • Communication: Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.
  • Technical Skills: Proficient with a computer and applicable software.
  • Analytical Skills: Ability to analyze scientific data and publish in scientific journals.
Working Conditions
  • Physical Demands: Standing for prolonged periods, reaching, bending, walking, and standing.
  • Environmental Factors: Laboratory Environment, may be exposed to biohazardous materials and/or blood-borne pathogens.
