About Us

East Harlem Scholars Academies are community-focused Pre-K to 12 public charter schools managed by East Harlem Tutorial Program (EHTP). Founded in 1958, EHTP has evolved from a children's reading group into a multi-site after-school initiative for traditional public school students and a network of charter schools dedicated to significantly enhancing the college graduation rate in East Harlem. We aim to serve at least 25% of East Harlem students by 2025, currently enrolling approximately 2200 students in our educational and after-school programs. In 2020, 99% of our seniors gained college acceptance, and our current college scholars are on track to graduate at eight times the national average.

At EHTP, we strive to be a catalyst for change and contribute thoughtfully to the national movement for racial equity. Our commitment to anti-racism work prepares our scholars to instigate change, challenge existing norms, and thrive in their environments. As staff members, we engage with our own racial identities and biases, both conscious and unconscious. Consequently, all our professional development, curriculum, and organizational materials are designed with a focus on racial justice. For more information, please refer to our racial equity statement.

Our work is grounded in racial equity, our core values, and our four guiding pursuits: the Revolutionary Pursuit of Love, the Radical Pursuit of Knowledge, the Responsive Pursuit of Healing, and the Relentless Pursuit of Results. These pursuits inform our strategic priorities, which include enhancing high-impact academic curriculum, advancing technology use, embodying ethical and equitable practices, and efficiently operationalizing teaching, learning, community, and care.

About the Role

As a Social Studies Educator at Scholars Academies, you will spend the majority of your day engaging directly with students. You will collaborate closely with the instructional leadership team to internalize and, when necessary, develop curriculum; deliver high-quality instruction; monitor and assess student progress; foster a positive classroom and school environment; and engage in reflective practices for continuous improvement. Additionally, you will serve as a class advisor, providing mentorship and support throughout students' middle school journeys. Together, we will equip students with the skills, character, and emotional resilience necessary to excel academically, lead in their communities, and realize their fullest potential.

  • Flexibility to adapt to school and student needs
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development
  • A minimum of two years' experience in relevant educational roles
