POSITION SUMMARY
Global Community Charter School (GCCS) is a pioneering International Baccalaureate (IB) World School located in Harlem, dedicated to fostering an innovative, inquiry-driven, and culturally aware educational environment. Our curriculum is designed to challenge students and promote critical and creative thinking.
The Middle School Social Studies Educator plays a crucial role in creating and sustaining a dynamic classroom atmosphere where both whole group and small group instruction, discussions, projects, and collaborative activities captivate students, maintain focus, and inspire a lifelong passion for learning.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Utilize knowledge of students, instructional content, and curricular resources to craft differentiated units and lesson plans that align with the NYS Social Studies Learning Standards.
- Adapt instruction to meet diverse student needs, incorporating the Workshop Model into lesson design.
- Assess academic performance and progress towards learning goals through comprehensive data analysis of student outcomes; leverage collected data to inform instructional strategies and interventions.
- Create additional learning opportunities connected to democratic practices, such as student forums, student government, and service learning initiatives.
- Develop and implement assessments that accurately gauge student progress towards academic standards.
- Ensure accountability for student mastery of academic standards.
- Engage in coaching cycles and apply research-based strategies to enhance both personal performance and student outcomes.
- Reflect on professional growth as an educator and actively seek resources for continuous improvement.
- Manage student behavior and classroom routines effectively to optimize learning time and foster a positive educational environment.
- Participate in IEP meetings and guarantee appropriate accommodations are provided during assessments.
- Actively engage in professional development opportunities as outlined in the school’s professional development calendar.
- Celebrate student achievements and progress during class and school-wide assemblies.
- Build meaningful relationships with students and parents to encourage student investment in their learning and academic success.
- Lead a student advisory group focused on academic and social-emotional development.
- Exemplify and promote the International Baccalaureate learner profile to cultivate a cohesive school culture centered on academic and personal success.
- Support the school’s mission as directed by school leadership.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution is required.
- A Master’s degree in education is preferred.
- Demonstrated expertise and understanding of the subject matter.
- New York State Certification for relevant grades or a demonstrated pathway to obtain certification.
- A minimum of 2 years of successful experience as a full-time middle school educator is preferred.
- Proven success in a high-performing urban educational setting is preferred.
- Evidence of excellence in teaching through ongoing professional development and data-driven analysis.
- A collaborative mindset and a commitment to working effectively within a team-oriented environment.
- Dedication to the mission of Global Community Charter School.
