Job Overview

The Pharmacy Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the pharmacy staff, operational activities, systems, and resources to achieve optimal performance and foster high levels of employee engagement.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage and continuously assess pharmacy processes to ensure a safe and efficient working environment.
  • Ensure departmental operations comply with organizational policies and regulatory standards.
  • Provide leadership for the daily operations of the pharmacy, ensuring the delivery of safe and effective pharmacy services.
  • Oversee IV admixture services, ensuring all operational and regulatory requirements are fulfilled.
  • Develop and revise policies and procedures to align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Monitor workflow consistently and devise strategies for ongoing improvement.
  • Ensure workplace safety is maintained at all times.
Essential Functions:
  • Lead, organize, and oversee the operational functions of the pharmacy department to guarantee efficient and safe workflow.
  • Supervise drug diversion prevention and monitoring activities, ensuring adherence to established policies and procedures.
  • Accountable for the safe and efficient operation of IV admixture services in compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Fulfill all responsibilities of the designated person for sterile and non-sterile compounding as defined by regulatory bodies.
  • Manage pharmacy automation, including monitoring, reporting, and process enhancement.
  • Design and implement departmental performance improvement initiatives related to safety and regulatory compliance.
  • Document corrective actions for performance improvement and medication management events, implementing preventative measures.
  • Oversee departmental scheduling to ensure optimal staffing aligns with workflow needs.
  • Manage drug procurement, storage, inventory control, and dispensing procedures.
  • Participate in departmental, hospital, and health system committees, consistently contributing and making recommendations.
  • Coordinate orientation, ongoing training, and evaluation processes for pharmacy staff.
  • Evaluate and implement safe medication processes and best practices in medication management.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory agencies regarding medication management processes.
  • Maintain the ability to perform basic staff duties to provide coverage when necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:Education:

Completion of all required competencies and training for the role. A Doctorate Degree is preferred, or a combination of relevant education and experience may be considered.

Experience:
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy settings.
  • Experience in hospital pharmacy operations, including leading projects and initiatives.
  • Experience in sterile IV compounding.
  • Managerial or supervisory experience is required.
Certification and Licensure:

Must possess a valid PA Pharmacist License.

Required Skills:
  • Strong analytical and collaborative skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Detail-oriented with excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to multitask and work effectively as part of a team.
