Graduate Assistant: Community Engagement Coordinator

Position Overview: The Community Engagement Coordinator acts as the primary liaison for a designated residence hall on campus. This role is pivotal in fostering and sustaining a constructive living-learning atmosphere by collaborating closely with student staff (Resident Assistants) to enhance the overall student experience. The Coordinator will oversee the operations, development, and community dynamics within one of the residence halls at Concordia University, St. Paul. Responsibilities include direct supervision of student staff, managing interpersonal issues, and orchestrating programming and events.

Supervision: Oversee a team of four to eight Resident Assistants, support the personal and professional growth of students residing on campus, conduct regular meetings and one-on-one sessions, and perform performance evaluations.

Administrative Duties: Regular meetings with supervisors, ensure completion of all necessary reports for the residence hall (including programming, condition assessments, occupancy statistics, weekly updates, and roommate agreements), and maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the building.

Training Responsibilities: Facilitate one training activity each semester, plan developmental initiatives for Resident Assistants, attend departmental meetings, assist with training sessions for new student staff, and engage in professional development opportunities.

Programming: Oversee all programming initiatives for the residence hall by collaborating with Resident Assistants to generate ideas, schedule events throughout the semester, produce marketing materials, and attend programs when possible.

Crisis Management: Participate in the on-call rotation and respond to incidents as necessary, providing follow-up support to residents as required.

Community Development: Collaborate with Resident Assistants to cultivate an inclusive and supportive community within the residence hall, promote respect for diversity, and establish community standards that reflect these values.

Departmental Contributions: Assist with major events such as Welcome Weekend, Admitted Student Day, Housing Sign-Up Day, and Resident Assistant recruitment; support Student Life programming and educational initiatives; contribute to assessment efforts and large-scale programs as needed.

Other Responsibilities: Additional duties as assigned.

Education & Experience: A Bachelor's Degree is required. Candidates must be accepted into a graduate program at Concordia University or another institution. Relevant programs include Educational Leadership, Leadership & Management, MBA, Strategic Communication Management, Criminal Justice Leadership, Human Services - Forensic Behavioral Health, or other approved programs.

Required Experience: Experience working with college students is essential. Previous experience in Residence Life is preferred.

Skills: Proficiency in written and oral communication, familiarity with Google operating systems, and the ability to work effectively with diverse student populations.

Teamwork: Ability to collaborate in a team environment while maintaining self-motivation.
