Key Responsibilities:
Ensure precise data entry, document preparation, and record maintenance of:
- Freight inventory
- Hazardous material documentation
- Train list documents, including waybills
- Demurrage and interchange records
Maintain yard inventory and provide train and switch lists to train crews. Deliver accurate movement information to both internal and external customers as well as train crews promptly. Maintain an accurate crew book, arrange transportation for crews, and manage hotel reservations. Contribute positively to the department and the organization.
Participate in cross-training with managers and other personnel in the Customer Service Department.
Work Schedule: Various shifts, including weekends and holidays.
Perform additional miscellaneous duties as assigned.
Job Requirements:
Education, Licenses/Certifications, and Work Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent required. Some college and/or railroad experience preferred. Prior knowledge in customer service, car movement, data entry, and waybilling is advantageous. A valid driver's license is required.
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Mental Requirements:
Proficient in computer usage and office equipment (fax, phone, copier, etc.). Ability to apply analytical and organizational skills to prioritize tasks. Effective verbal and written communication skills to establish good working relationships with co-workers, management, train crews, and customers. Capacity to learn and apply policies, procedures, and regulations as required by the organization and federal guidelines. Must maintain focus amid office noise and interruptions.
Physical Requirements:
This position involves constant viewing of a computer and various types of close visual work, sitting, repetitive motion, and communicating ideas verbally either on the phone or in person. Frequent talking or hearing in person, by radio, or on the telephone. Occasional physical activities such as stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, standing, walking, and lifting up to 10 pounds.
Working Conditions:
The role is office-based and does not involve significant exposure to adverse environmental conditions or high noise levels.
