Position Overview:

MaineHealth, a leading tertiary care institution in Maine, is seeking qualified candidates for the role of Senior Philanthropy Officer. This position is dedicated to fostering relationships with prospective donors within the community and securing significant philanthropic commitments that align with MaineHealth's strategic objectives. Current initiatives focus on generating substantial financial support for MaineHealth's academic endeavors, encompassing both medical education and biomedical research, a patient-centered care approach, and the expansion of cancer care and behavioral health services at MaineHealth Mid Coast Hospitals.

The development team at MaineHealth thrives on collaboration and teamwork. We are looking for individuals who are entrepreneurial, self-motivated, and possess a relentless drive to cultivate and solicit a network of leadership donors for the MaineHealth system. The Senior Philanthropy Officer must demonstrate exceptional fundraising capabilities, outstanding communication skills, and a proven history of securing major gifts. Familiarity with planned giving strategies and grant writing is also advantageous. We have established a transparent accountability framework for all frontline fundraisers, which includes visit targets, proposal development, and funds raised. Beyond managing visits and proposals, the Senior Philanthropy Officer is expected to contribute to nurturing a culture of philanthropy at MaineHealth and collaborate closely with clinical and administrative leaders to fulfill our mission and vision for the future of healthcare.

Essential Qualifications and Skills:

  1. Education: A Bachelor's degree is required; an advanced degree and/or CFRE or CAP certification is preferred.
  2. Experience: A minimum of 5 years in development, ideally within a healthcare or academic medical center environment. Basic understanding of planned giving instruments and grant writing is necessary.
  3. Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication abilities, with a talent for presenting complex information clearly and persuasively.
  4. Project Management: Capability to manage multiple projects concurrently and work independently under the pressure of tight deadlines.
  5. Travel Requirements: Willingness to travel as needed, both within and outside the state.
