ROLE: SUPPLY CHAIN RELIABILITY ENGINEER (STARSHIP & RAPTOR)

This role is integral to the Starship supply chain initiative, requiring a blend of leadership and technical expertise. The position emphasizes quality assurance and necessitates a comprehensive understanding of manufacturing methodologies along with hands-on experience in quality investigations, quality assurance/control practices, and supplier management. The focus is on leading investigations into supplier quality discrepancies identified during production, establishing quality protocols for suppliers, and ensuring compliance with these standards. The ideal candidate will possess a robust understanding of manufacturing and quality processes, coupled with a strong willingness to tackle new challenges in diverse areas to support our mission.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Collaborate with production, inspection, shipping/receiving, and engineering teams to develop effective quality signals and processes that align with program reliability objectives.
  • Enhance quality processes, programs, and procedures to ensure the identification, segregation, control, and resolution of nonconforming materials at both the business and supplier levels.
  • Engage with stakeholders and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to refine requirements, specifications, and supplier directives.
  • Oversee containment actions for non-conforming products, including identifying product locations and coordinating with Build Reliability Engineers on potential flight risks.
  • Employ data-driven problem-solving techniques to lead cross-functional supplier quality investigations.
  • Establish metrics, gather and analyze data to uncover improvement opportunities aimed at reducing defects, minimizing waste, enhancing yield, and boosting internal customer satisfaction.
  • Drive root cause analysis and influence operational teams to implement corrective actions based on findings.
  • Maintain and enhance the Supply Chain Material Review Board (MRB) process to ensure compliance with relevant standards.
  • Coordinate failure resolution and follow-up actions to prevent recurrence of issues.
  • Work collaboratively to develop and manage strategies for reliability that mitigate future production risks and capitalize on opportunities for quality enhancement.
  • Conduct independent technical assessments of supplier capabilities and ongoing reliability.
  • Partner with various organizations to identify and lead improvement initiatives.
  • Foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to optimize performance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline.
  • 5+ years of experience in quality systems, quality assurance, control, or manufacturing/production.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in engineering or supply chain management.
  • Familiarity with AS9100, ISO 9000, or Nadcap AC7004 standards.
  • Experience in quality systems administration, auditing, and supplier evaluations.
  • Knowledge of chemistry, engineering principles, fluid dynamics, and material mechanics.
  • Experience with mechanical testing and material properties.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, or Python/R for analysis or modeling.
  • Experience with machining processes such as milling, turning, and tube cutting.
  • Ability to quickly understand a diverse range of supplier capabilities.
  • Practical experience in developing requirements and specifications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to organize complex issues for decision-making.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading multi-disciplinary engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of quality tools including Lean principles, Six Sigma, root cause analysis, and advanced product quality planning.
  • Experience in high-volume manufacturing environments.
  • Understanding of supplier quality processes.
  • Disciplined approach to problem-solving.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present to various audiences.

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to work extended hours and weekends as necessary to meet project milestones.
  • Ability to travel up to 25% of the work week, including potential international travel.
  • This position requires onsite presence.
  • Valid driver's license is required.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

Competitive salary range for the role is $125,000 to $175,000 annually. Actual compensation will be determined based on individual qualifications, experience, and other relevant factors.

In addition to base salary, employees may be eligible for long-term incentives, comprehensive health benefits, a 401(k) retirement plan, and various other perks. Paid vacation and holidays are also part of the benefits package.
