The NYC Administration for Children's Services, Division of Youth and Family Justice (DYFJ) is dedicated to providing secure and non-secure detention services for Juvenile Delinquents and Juvenile Offenders awaiting court proceedings.


In this role, you will ensure the safety and well-being of youths in juvenile detention, acting as a mentor and guide. You will collaborate with a team to foster positive youth development, employing de-escalation and restraint techniques when necessary.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage and support youth in various activities, including educational programs, daily routines, meals, and recreational activities.
  • Facilitate the acquisition of pro-social, academic, and vocational skills among youth.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to youth, both individually and in group settings, utilizing a behavior management approach.
  • Utilize crisis intervention strategies to address conflicts effectively.
  • Participate in rapid response efforts during emergency situations.
  • Work with youth to implement gang prevention and anti-bullying initiatives.
  • Collaborate with an interdisciplinary team to create individualized treatment plans and support academic success.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and security protocols, including conducting searches and monitoring youth behavior.
  • Maintain accurate records of youth observations and incidents.
  • Assist in the youth admission and orientation process.
  • Ensure the safe transportation of youth in vehicles and during court appearances.

Qualifications:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent, with two years of relevant experience working with juveniles or young adults in various settings.
  • An associate degree or 60 semester credits from an accredited institution, combined with one year and three months of relevant experience.
  • A bachelor's degree from an accredited college, supplemented by at least six months of relevant experience.
  • Military service experience may substitute for some of the required experience.
