Position Overview

We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Support Skills Instructor to join our dynamic team in the Bronx. In this role, you will play a vital part in guiding young people towards success by facilitating impactful support skills classes and fostering their personal and professional growth.

Responsibilities:
  • Develop engaging sector-based training materials covering career exploration, work readiness, college readiness, and other essential support skills. Utilize a variety of teaching methods, including group activities, experiential learning, discussions, role-plays, and guest speakers.
  • Provide expert guidance on industry-recognized credential training programs such as Microsoft Office Certification, National Retail Federation Credential, ServSafe, Security Guard, and others, aligning with participants' career aspirations.
  • Create personalized Work and Career Readiness packets for each cohort in the Opportunity Youth portfolio, tailored to their individual goals, interests, and vocational training paths.
  • Build strong relationships with businesses and community agencies to secure guest speakers, industry-focused events, and valuable learning opportunities for participants.
  • Offer one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions to support participants preparing for GED exams and Vocational Training exams.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Education to plan enriching community events and field trips relevant to areas of study.
  • Attend all relevant meetings, trainings, agency events, and funding events as required.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the program by taking on additional responsibilities as assigned by your supervisor.
  • Develop, organize, and meticulously track participant work to ensure compliance with internal and funder requirements.
Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's degree preferred
  • Knowledge of Trauma-Informed Care and Deescalation Practices is highly valued
  • Minimum 3 years of classroom management experience
  • Minimum 3 years of demonstrated experience in providing work readiness and/or industry-recognized credential instruction, and direct youth development services.
  • Strong understanding of educational/vocational programs for youth, labor market trends, and opportunities for young people.
  • Familiarity with GED exams and study skills is a plus
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to effectively outreach and engage young people in the educational and career development process
  • Proven ability to work well under pressure, meet deadlines, and exercise sound judgment
  • Demonstrate professionalism, punctuality, and dedication to best practices for students and colleagues
  • Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint), Google applications (Sheets, Docs, Slides), and other relevant software.
