Position Overview

We are looking for a proficient Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) to become a vital member of our Pediatric Liver Transplant Program. This role is essential within our collaborative healthcare team, contributing to the clinical management and decision-making processes for pediatric patients undergoing liver transplantation. The Advanced Practice Provider will operate within their full scope of practice, which includes prescribing medications and performing procedures as authorized.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Managing outpatient care for liver transplant patients, including pre- and post-operative monitoring, medication management, and patient education.
  • Serving as a primary provider for inpatient pediatric liver and intestinal transplant patients, engaging in clinical rounds and documentation.
  • Assisting in the operating room during pediatric transplant surgeries, including liver and multivisceral transplants.
  • Providing support for both weekday and weekend shifts to ensure continuous care coverage.

Preferred qualifications include prior experience in pediatric care or transplant medicine, with a strong ability to work collaboratively in a multidisciplinary environment. RNFA certification for Nurse Practitioners is preferred and may be required within one year of employment.

Nurse Practitioner (NP): The Nurse Practitioner operates under established protocols approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC), providing comprehensive care for patients with both acute and chronic conditions in collaboration with supervising physicians.

Physician Assistant (PA): The Physician Assistant functions under the guidelines set forth by the IDPC, with specific responsibilities defined in collaboration with supervising physicians.

Core Responsibilities

  • Evaluating and treating patients with various health concerns related to specialty care.
  • Conducting thorough patient assessments and physical examinations.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests as necessary.
  • Prescribing medications and coordinating therapeutic services.
  • Facilitating patient admissions and discharges, ensuring all necessary documentation is completed.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and ongoing education.

Minimum Qualifications

Qualifications include a combination of education and experience that equips the candidate with the necessary skills and knowledge.

For Physician Assistants:

  • A Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
  • Graduation from an accredited PA program.

For Nurse Practitioners:

  • A Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Graduation from an accredited NP program.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

For Physician Assistants:

  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant in California.
  • Certification from the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).

For Nurse Practitioners:

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in California.
