Advanced Practice Provider - Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant

This role involves collaboration with our esteemed Pediatric Stem Cell Transplant team within our inpatient unit. Our team provides groundbreaking treatments, including clinical trials for gene therapy targeting blood disorders and pioneering kidney and stem cell transplant procedures that offer patients a sustainable solution without long-term immune suppression.

We highly encourage personal statements. Please note that this position requires a minimum of one year of prior advanced practice experience, with a preference for candidates with experience in Stem Cell Transplant or Pediatric Intensive Care.

Position Overview

This section outlines the general responsibilities and purpose of the role.

Nurse Practitioner (NP): The Nurse Practitioner operates under the established Nurse Practitioner Standardized Process Protocol, approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). The NP delivers routine care and manages patients with both acute and chronic conditions, collaborating closely with the supervising physician and adhering to standardized procedures.

Physician Assistant (PA): The Physician Assistant works under the Physician Assistant Role Description sanctioned by the IDPC. The PA's specific duties are defined in collaboration with their supervising physician(s) and must receive approval from relevant medical and nursing administrators.

Key Responsibilities

The following functions are typical for this job classification and may include additional duties as assigned.

All employees must comply with Joint Commission Requirements, including but not limited to cultural sensitivity, patient rights, ethical treatment, and safety protocols.

Responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating and managing patients with acute and chronic health issues in accordance with specialty-specific standardized procedures.
  • Conducting comprehensive patient histories and physical examinations, assessing both normal and abnormal findings.
  • Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests as necessary.
  • Prescribing medications and managing treatment plans.
  • Coordinating hospital admissions and discharges, ensuring all documentation is completed accurately.
  • Participating in quality improvement initiatives and patient education.
  • Collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive patient care.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Candidates must possess a combination of education and experience that equips them with the necessary skills and knowledge for this role.

For Physician Assistants (PA):

  • A bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution.
  • Graduation from a PA program accredited by the Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant, Inc.

For Nurse Practitioners (NP):

  • A master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
  • Graduation from an NP program accredited by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education.

Licensure/Certification Requirements:

For Physician Assistants (PA):

  • Licensure as a Physician Assistant in California.
  • Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.

For Nurse Practitioners (NP):

  • Licensure as a Registered Nurse in California.
  • Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in California.
  • National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner from an accredited agency.
