Position Overview
We are looking for a highly qualified Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner/Physician Assistant) to become a vital member of our Pediatric Liver Transplant Program. This position is crucial to our collaborative team, contributing to the management and clinical decisions for pediatric liver transplant patients. The APP will operate within their full practice authority, which includes the ability to order and prescribe medical treatments and perform procedures as permitted by medical staff privileges. Working in conjunction with Hepatology and Liver Transplant Surgeons, the APP will ensure that our patients receive thorough and individualized care.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage outpatient liver transplant patients before and after surgery, focusing on monitoring, medication management, patient education, and care coordination.
- Act as the primary provider for inpatient pediatric liver and intestinal transplant patients, participating in rounds, documentation, and clinical decision-making alongside the Hepatologist and Transplant Surgeon.
- Assist in the operating room during pediatric transplant surgeries, including liver and intestinal transplants, as well as multivisceral transplants and liver resections.
- Provide service line support during weekdays and weekends to ensure continuous coverage, including after-hours support for urgent transplant cases.
Prior experience in pediatric care or transplant medicine is preferred. The ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team and independently manage patient care is essential. RNFA certification for Nurse Practitioners is preferred and may be required within one year of hire based on specific location needs.

Nurse Practitioner (NP): The Nurse Practitioner operates under the Nurse Practitioner Standardized Process Protocol approved by the Interdisciplinary Practice Committee (IDPC). The NP provides routine care and management for patients with both acute and chronic conditions, collaborating with supervising physicians and implementing standardized procedures.
Physician Assistant (PA): The Physician Assistant operates under the Physician Assistant Role Description approved by the IDPC. Specific duties related to the Service, Clinic, or Department are defined by the PA and their supervising physician(s), with necessary approvals from medical and nursing administrators.

Responsibilities include:

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying.
Physician Assistant (PA):
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
- Graduate of an accredited PA program.
Nurse Practitioner (NP):
- Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution.
- Graduate of an accredited NP program.
Licensure/Certification:
Physician Assistant (PA):
- Licensure as a Physician Assistant in California.
- Certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Nurse Practitioner (NP):
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in California.
- Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in California.
- National Board Certification as a Nurse Practitioner.
