Position Overview
Join a vibrant and fast-paced environment in our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU), where we deliver advanced critical care to pediatric patients with both congenital and acquired heart conditions. Our unit is recognized as one of the largest and most sophisticated facilities in the western United States, catering to over 750 patients annually. Currently, our CVICU comprises 29 beds, with plans for future expansion.
Our Pediatric Heart Transplant program is enhanced by the Pediatric Advanced Cardiac Therapies (PACT) initiative, which offers innovative circulatory support options, including ECMO and other advanced devices. Our team is among the most experienced in the nation in managing these intricate cases.
The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) team consists of 19 skilled Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants, collaborating to provide exceptional care. Collectively, we bring over 90 years of pediatric cardiac experience, with interests spanning research, complex patient care, and advanced therapies. We are looking for team-oriented professionals who share our enthusiasm for pediatric cardiac intensive care.
Key Responsibilities
As an advanced practice provider, your responsibilities will include:
- Conducting pre-rounding assessments and developing patient care plans.
- Presenting patient cases during rounds and executing the agreed-upon treatment strategies.
- Performing essential procedures such as intubation, line placements, and chest tube management.
Opportunities for professional growth include participation in clinical advancement programs, APP grand rounds, and various committees.
Qualifications
A Master's or doctoral degree in nursing from an accredited institution is required. Candidates must have graduated from an NP program recognized by the National League of Nursing Accrediting Commission (NLNAC) or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE). Experience in pediatric cardiac care or intensive care settings is highly desirable.
Role Summary
The Advanced Practice Provider positions are integral to a collaborative team of physicians and fellows. Our APP team is respected for its expertise and actively engages in the education of fellows and residents. Responsibilities include patient handoffs, care planning, and addressing any concerns raised by nursing staff throughout the day.
Essential Functions
The essential functions of this role include:
- Evaluating and managing patients with acute and chronic health issues.
- Performing comprehensive patient assessments and ordering necessary diagnostic tests.
- Prescribing medications and coordinating patient care.
- Participating in quality improvement initiatives and patient education.
Licensure and Certification
Licensure as a Registered Nurse and certification as a Nurse Practitioner in the State of California are mandatory. Additional certifications in Basic Life Support (BLS) and any relevant board certifications may be required.
Compensation
Salary is determined based on the role's requirements and the candidate's qualifications, with a typical range for new team members starting at the minimum to midpoint of the salary scale.
