Position Summary:
We are in search of a highly skilled Lead Software Architect to become a vital member of our Emerging Technologies Team.

This team is engaged in pioneering optical sensor research, focusing on the innovative design, selection, and integration of next-generation optoelectronic components, along with system testing and troubleshooting.

In this role, you will collaborate with seasoned technical professionals to craft solutions for unique software requests from our clients.

Key Responsibilities:

Design & Development:
- Spearhead the architectural design and software development for significant departmental projects.
- Engage in multiple major initiatives that require inventive solutions to fulfill customer requirements.
- Design, develop, and implement software solutions addressing system-level challenges across various software subsystems.

- Provide hands-on coding expertise, which may encompass embedded systems, hardware integration, graphical user interfaces, and application development.

- Identify intricate problems and formulate optimal, innovative solutions.

Collaboration & Support:
- Actively engage in code reviews, requirements development, and other software-related activities.
- Collaborate with cross-functional engineers and scientists to define requirements and propose effective solutions.
- Mentor junior team members and assist in troubleshooting across various software projects and platforms.
- Prepare technical documentation and sections for proposals, project reports, and deliverables.
- Ensure compliance with relevant codes, practices, policies, performance standards, and specifications.
- Maintain relationships with software suppliers, external partners, and consultants.
- Strive to achieve results within expected timelines and budgets.
- Contribute to the ongoing enhancement of the software development and integration processes.
- Proactively identify, communicate, and manage significant risks while recognizing opportunities for improvement.

Qualifications:

Technical Expertise:
- A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline (advanced degree preferred).
- Over 12 years of experience in software development within aerospace, military electronics, or a related field.

- A proven track record of creativity and innovation, recognized as an authority in engineering principles and their applications.

- Established experience in developing software architectures for complex ruggedized computing systems.
- A self-motivated technical expert capable of independently planning, organizing, and executing all tasks for embedded software development projects.
- Proficient in System-on-Chip configuration and integration, including firmware development for field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs).
- Extensive experience with C/C++ embedded software development.

- Significant experience in developing software requirements, coding, and hardware/software integration, including validation on target hardware.

- Ability to troubleshoot software and related hardware issues in integrated systems.

Communication & Interpersonal Skills:
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to present design progress during major project milestones.
- A self-starter with the capability to work independently and meet established objectives with minimal oversight.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with military platform integration and product architectures.
- Experience with specialized interfaces such as ARINC-818, ARINC-661, MIL-STD-1553, and others.
- Background in safety-critical embedded system projects adhering to DO-178 standards.
- Experience in designing graphical user interfaces (GUI) for product functionality testing.
- Knowledge of Real-Time Operating Systems (RTOS) such as Green Hills Integrity, VxWorks, or LynxOS.
- Familiarity with Python and experience with C#Unity or similar technologies.
