About the Role

The Director of Nursing Practice will provide overall leadership to nursing practice, nursing education, and professional development at Allina Health. This role will direct planning, coordination, direction, and development of assigned functions, ensuring innovative leadership and sound fiscal and human resource management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Quality Care and Performance Improvement Planning
    • Promote evidence-based practice and excellence in patient care, patient safety, and patient experience.
    • Ensure continuous education, training, and development to achieve optimal performance on clinical quality outcomes.
    • Support and enhance continual improvement in clinical and organizational practice.
    • Maintain effective systems and processes for establishing standards of nursing practice, nursing standards of care, and policies and procedures.
  • People
    • Assure that employees have gained the knowledge and skills necessary to perform safely and effectively in their roles.
    • Provide direction and consultation to patient care managers to improve nursing performance and outcomes.
    • Develop best practices and benchmark aims through partnering with physicians and staff.
    • Provide support and direction for individuals to grow and develop.
    • Develop direct reports, build teams to achieve outcomes, and delegate well.
    • Recognize, celebrate, and provide leadership around diversity.
  • Financial Growth and Health
    • Prepare and manage the annual budget, including projecting personnel and supply costs.
    • Recommend capital expenditures in areas of accountability.
    • Analyze and manage monthly financial performance against budget.
    • Develop, monitor, and manage resources to achieve budget targets.
  • Organizational and Community Relationships
    • Maintain effective relationships within and between departments to effectively partner around solutions.
    • Establish community linkages that promote learning and health improvement.
    • Collaborate with nursing staff at all levels, interdisciplinary teams, executive leaders, and other stakeholders.
  • Other Duties
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in nursing.
  • Master's degree in nursing, business, healthcare administration, or related field required, or must be actively pursuing with agreed-upon completion date.
  • 2 to 5 years of direct patient care experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • 5 to 7 years of leadership experience in an acute healthcare setting.
  • Prior mental health and addiction experience is preferred.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Licensed Registered Nurse - MN Board of Nursing required.

Physical Demands

  • Light Work: Lifting weight up to 20 lbs. occasionally, up to 10 lbs. frequently.
