Job Title: Electrical Engineering Department Manager

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled Electrical Engineering Department Manager to join our team in Hammond, IN. As a key member of our Utility Services Department, you will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians in the design, construction, and maintenance of electrical distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Manage multiple electric distribution teams to ensure projects are executed on time and within budget
  • Direct and provide leadership to team members for engineering, design, and construction functions
  • Utilize knowledge of National Electric Safety Code (NESC) Standards and client standards to manage Utility Services Department teams
  • Manage regional productivity and financial budget, reporting variances to internal management team
  • Verify department teams are uniformed in safety, engineering design, technology platform utilization, project execution, and invoicing practices
  • Create training opportunities for department staff
  • Support leadership team with client onboarding, contract negotiations, and relationship development
  • Develop customer proposals, including technical scope, schedule, budget, and resource management
  • Interface directly with clients or contractors to verify department projects are executed in alignment with scope
  • Communicate potential strategic initiatives or departmental risks to internal management team
  • Provide personnel orientation, training, mentorship, coaching, and disciplinary action
  • Uphold Orbital Company Standards and complete quality assurance practices on regional team deliverables
  • Conduct performance evaluations for department team members
Requirements:
  • BS in an Engineering Discipline (EE preferred) with 10+ years of relevant experience
  • Demonstrated supervisory skills and proven project management experience
  • Previous experience leading engineering personnel 7+ years
  • Experience in managing multiple teams
  • Ability to negotiate and develop relationships with current and new clients or contracting parties
  • Proficient knowledge of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and comprehension of client construction standards
  • Exceptional analytical and decision-making skills, with ability to communicate with all levels of the organization
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office software applications
  • Experience with analyzing data and preparing departmental financial reporting
  • Ability to read and understand engineering drawings/schematics
  • Ability to work with limited supervision and provide leadership to other team members
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License and/or Project Management Professional (PMP)
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction
  • Knowledge or experience in overhead and underground utility distribution
  • Experience within the Joint-Use industry with understanding of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Guidelines
  • Demonstrated knowledge in financial analysis and departmental budget management experience
