Job Summary

Orbital Engineering, Inc. is seeking a highly skilled and experienced professional to fill the role of Distribution Engineering Department Manager. This position will be responsible for leading a team of engineers and technicians in the design, construction, and maintenance of electric distribution systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and oversee the daily operations of the Distribution Engineering Department, ensuring that projects are completed on time, within budget, and to the highest quality standards.
  • Lead a team of engineers and technicians in the design, construction, and maintenance of electric distribution systems, including overhead and underground lines, substations, and other related infrastructure.
  • Develop and implement departmental strategies and plans to improve efficiency, productivity, and customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with other departments and stakeholders to ensure seamless project execution and effective communication.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to team members, ensuring that they have the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
  • Monitor and analyze departmental performance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and implementing corrective actions as needed.
  • Develop and manage departmental budgets, ensuring that expenses are aligned with company goals and objectives.
  • Recruit, train, and develop high-performing team members, ensuring that the department has the necessary talent and expertise to meet business needs.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, technologies, and best practices, applying this knowledge to improve departmental performance and drive business growth.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (EE preferred) and 10+ years of relevant experience in electric distribution design engineering.
  • Proven track record of leadership and management experience, with a strong ability to motivate and inspire team members.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think critically and make informed decisions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software applications and other relevant tools and technologies.
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment, with a strong focus on customer satisfaction and business growth.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineering (PE) License and/or Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
  • Working knowledge of electrical distribution assets and/or communication equipment construction.
  • Knowledge or experience in overhead and underground utility distribution.
  • Experience within the Joint-Use industry with understanding of the Federal Communication Commission (FCC) Guidelines.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in financial analysis and departmental budget management experience, including financial reporting and department auditing.
