Job Summary:

MRC Industries is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated professional to join our team as an Employment Training Specialist. This role is responsible for developing opportunities in the community to assist and enable individuals with developmental disabilities and severe and persistent mental illness to obtain and maintain long-term competitive employment.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Community Outreach and Networking: Engage in community outreach and networking opportunities to build and nurture business relationships, develop job opportunities for individuals with disabilities, and promote MRC Industries' services.
  • Job Development and Placement: Work with employers to examine job needs and work environments, determine the need for workplace modifications, and provide coaching and support to individuals with disabilities to teach them the job.
  • Follow-up and Support Services: Provide ongoing follow-up and support services to individuals with disabilities to assist them in adjusting to and maintaining their employment, and connect them with other community resources as needed.
  • Employer Relations and Support: Maintain contact with employers to provide follow-up support and ensure satisfaction with services, and assist individuals with disabilities in understanding how their employment income will impact their benefits.
  • Business Development and Partnerships: Establish and nurture business relationships through participating in community organizations, attending career fairs, and other events to promote MRC Industries' services and develop new business opportunities.
  • Documentation and Reporting: Maintain an organized system of recording job openings, including the names of employers, individuals referred, and actions taken, and complete documentation in a timely manner.
  • Safety Analysis and Compliance: Conduct safety analyses of employment sites to ensure a safe environment for individuals with disabilities, and comply with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Training and Development: Provide training and support to individuals new to community employment, and ensure that all staff members are knowledgeable about culturally competent, recovery-based practices, person-centered planning, and trauma-informed care.
Requirements:
  • Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree preferred, with prior experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities and/or mental illness.
  • Skills and Abilities: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, professionalism, and ability to build and sustain relationships with people at all levels; excellent organizational and time management skills, ability to prioritize multiple tasks, and exercise independent and sound judgment.
  • Certifications and Licenses: Must become certified as an Employment Training Specialist (ETS) within 6 months of hire, and have a valid Michigan driver's license, good driving record, and availability of a licensed and insured vehicle for use on the job.
