Position Overview:
The Mathematics Support Specialist is a critical role designed to assist at-risk middle school students in enhancing their mathematical skills through targeted interventions. This position is funded by Title I and is essential for fostering student success in mathematics.
Compensation:
Salary is determined based on years of teaching experience and certification, starting at $43,044. A signing bonus is available based on prior teaching experience, with potential bonuses of up to $3,600 for those with 20 or more years of experience.
Certification Requirements:
Candidates must possess a valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Math Endorsement (EX) required. Additional endorsements are preferred.
Qualifications:
- Proven experience in teaching mathematics, including progress monitoring and targeted interventions.
- Ability to utilize assessment data to inform math intervention strategies.
- Experience in making instructional decisions based on student responses to interventions.
- Familiarity with the Michigan Academic Standards for Mathematics.
- Strong collaboration skills to work effectively with colleagues in a team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to student achievement and integrating literacy across the curriculum.
- Understanding of child and adolescent learning processes.
- Experience in differentiated instruction tailored to diverse learning needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deliver mathematics instruction to small groups of at-risk middle school students.
- Implement and facilitate math intervention programs.
- Collect and analyze student performance data in collaboration with the math department.
- Engage in professional development and contribute to school improvement initiatives.
- Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the educational environment.
- Manage classroom dynamics effectively, adhering to established guidelines.
