Position SummaryPoseida is in search of exceptional candidates to join our Genetic Engineering team, focusing on molecular biology, protein engineering, and gene editing.
You will play a significant role in exciting projects aimed at enhancing the use and capabilities of our piggyBac gene delivery and Cas-CLOVER gene editing platforms.
Responsibilities- Expand our proprietary gene editing platform to develop new tools and applications for specialized and enhanced implementation in gene therapy, gene editing, and biologics/cell therapeutics.
- Utilize your strong background in molecular and cellular biology to develop and enhance new gene editing and transposon tools in cell culture models for ex vivo and in vivo therapies.
- Engage in a highly collaborative, cross-functional team environment to conduct laboratory experiments, analyze results, and communicate findings in team meetings.
- Stay updated on trends, new products, and technologies in gene editing, knock-ins, and transposons.
- Actively contribute to our proprietary gene therapy platform technologies to create new human therapeutic candidates.
- Analyze data from cell-based assays and report findings to multidisciplinary groups.
- A Senior Research Scientist may oversee 1-2 Research Technicians or Research Associates, thus management experience and 5+ years of relevant industry experience are expected at this level.
Education: Ph.D. in molecular biology, synthetic biology, cell biology, virology, protein engineering, genome engineering, or a related scientific field with varying years of experience depending on the level.
Experience: Familiarity with transposases, recombinases, CRISPR, TALENs, ZFNs, Prime Editing, Base Editing, or other genome editing tools is essential. Proficiency in bioinformatics, machine learning, or programming languages (such as Python) is highly valued.
Technical Skills: Previous experience with functional assays and analyses for gene editing/knock-in/knock-outs and genotoxicity, including insertion site characterization, off-target evaluation, and genomic instability assessment is required. Understanding and hands-on experience with various directed evolution or rational/structure-based protein engineering strategies is a plus.
Experience with cloning techniques such as restriction digests, Gibson assembly, transformations, Sanger sequencing, plasmid preps, and DNA design/analysis software is preferred. High throughput or pooled cloning work is advantageous.
Proficiency with mammalian tissue culture and transfection of immortalized cell lines is necessary, with experience in various primary cell types being a plus.
Previous experience or a strong desire to learn techniques such as multicolor flow cytometry, cell sorting, PCR, qRT-PCR, ddPCR, library preparation, and Next Generation Sequencing is beneficial.
Personal Attributes: Demonstrated independence, self-motivation, and the ability to work collaboratively are crucial. Excellent oral and written communication skills, attention to detail, and documentation skills are required. Strong critical thinking and analytical skills, along with troubleshooting abilities, are essential.
A passion for conducting research that may lead to the treatment or cure of human diseases is a must. The role may require lifting up to 40 pounds and standing for extended periods.
