Job Overview

AST SpaceMobile, in collaboration with our international partners, is pioneering the development of the first and only space-based cellular broadband network that will be accessible via standard smartphones. This innovative network, known as SpaceMobile, aims to deliver connectivity at 4G/5G speeds across the globe – whether on land, at sea, or in the air.

Position Summary:

The Junior Systems Engineer will play a crucial role in the creation and utilization of simulations, data analysis tools, and algorithms relevant to satellite design and operations. This position involves collaboration with various subsystems and teams to provide support on tasks that necessitate a comprehensive understanding of satellite systems engineering.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Utilizing existing satellite constellation and simulation tools to support both operational and developmental phases of satellite project life cycles.
  • Developing, modifying, and enhancing simulations to model constellation and satellite behaviors, including interactions with ground segments.
  • Designing and optimizing algorithms for data analysis related to satellite telemetry, operational satellite usage, or during the proof-of-concept phase of in-flight software development.
  • Assisting in the development of operational concepts, use cases, flows, and transitions across all satellite on-orbit activities.
  • Creating ground scripts to facilitate the generation, collection, and analysis of data from models and/or satellite telemetry.
  • Coordinating with subsystem and discipline teams to identify and support inter-team interactions.
  • Formulating test plans and conducting tests on satellite hardware.
  • Providing analytical support to various teams regarding satellite capabilities and behaviors in response to specific inquiries.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aerospace engineering or a related discipline.
  • Experience in writing functions and scripts for data analysis and modeling (e.g., Python, MATLAB).
  • Understanding of fundamental satellite concepts applicable to their design and/or operation.
  • Must be a US Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Proficient in reading, speaking, and writing in English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in aerospace engineering or a related field.
  • Experience in systems engineering with a focus on analysis and design.
  • Knowledge of Low Earth Orbit (LEO) constellation design and analysis.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills (written, verbal, and face-to-face).
