Position Summary:

We are in search of a proficient Lead Power Electronics Engineer to become an integral part of our team dedicated to Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite initiatives. This position entails the design, development, and enhancement of power electronics systems to guarantee the dependable operation of satellite subsystems in the challenging environment of space. The ideal candidate will possess a robust background in power electronics along with relevant experience in satellite systems, applying a pragmatic approach to problem-solving and innovation.

Key Responsibilities:

Design and Development:

  • Craft and enhance power electronics systems, including DC-DC converters, power distribution units, and battery management systems tailored for LEO satellites.
  • Design and validate power regulation and control systems to ensure dependable performance under space conditions.
  • Create and review comprehensive circuit schematics, PCB layouts, and conduct simulations to confirm design efficacy.

Integration and Testing:

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate power electronics into satellite subsystems.
  • Conduct ground-based and space-like environmental tests to validate the performance and reliability of power systems.
  • Analyze test results to identify challenges and implement design enhancements.

Optimization and Troubleshooting:

  • Refine power systems for efficiency, reliability, and thermal management in the satellite context.
  • Diagnose and resolve technical challenges related to power electronics throughout design, testing, and operational phases.

Documentation and Compliance:

  • Ensure that designs adhere to space mission standards and industry regulations.
  • Prepare and maintain comprehensive documentation, including design reports, test plans, and performance evaluations.

Support and Collaboration:

  • Provide technical assistance during satellite assembly, integration, and testing phases.
  • Work closely with fellow engineers and stakeholders to tackle technical challenges and project requirements.

Innovation and Continuous Improvement:

  • Stay informed about advancements in power electronics and satellite technology.
  • Contribute to the development of new methodologies and technologies to enhance power system performance and reliability.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, with a focus on Power Electronics.
  • 3-7 years of experience in power electronics design and development, preferably in space or aerospace applications.
  • Expertise in designing power conversion circuits and systems.
  • Experience with thermal management and high-reliability electronics for space environments.
  • Familiarity with satellite power systems and space mission requirements.
  • Proficient in simulation tools (e.g., SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink) and PCB design software (e.g., Altium, Cadence).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Able to work effectively in a team-oriented, multidisciplinary environment.
  • U.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Must be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Electrical Engineering, emphasizing Power Electronics.
  • Knowledge of space radiation effects and mitigation strategies.
  • Understanding of industry standards and regulatory requirements for space missions.
  • Experience with LEO satellite power systems or similar space missions.
