Seattle, Washington, United States Blue Origin Full time

At Blue Origin, we aspire to create a future where countless individuals thrive in space, contributing to the well-being of our planet.

Our mission is to design and produce reusable, safe, and cost-effective space vehicles and systems, all within a framework that prioritizes safety, teamwork, and inclusivity.

Join our innovative team of problem solvers as we embark on new journeys in the realm of space exploration.
We are a collective of diverse thinkers, doers, and innovators, unwaveringly dedicated to maintaining a culture of safety.

This role will play a crucial part in shaping the future of space exploration, demanding your commitment and meticulous attention to ensuring safe and repeatable space travel.

As we work towards reducing the costs associated with space access, we invite you to be part of Blue Origin's vision of enabling a future where many people can live and work in space for the benefit of Earth.

In this position, you will collaborate with a small, passionate team of experts, focusing on the development of processes for liquid propellant rockets.

As a Senior Manufacturing Engineer, your responsibilities will include translating engineering concepts, drawings, and configurations into fully operational hardware prepared for testing, qualification, and flight.

Throughout the manufacturing lifecycle, you will identify, create, and implement strategies to enhance quality, minimize costs, and optimize production sequences and timelines.

As a vital member of the team, you will conduct Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) and Process Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (PFMEA) studies to reinforce the feedback loop between design, production, and testing, thereby accelerating rocket engine development.

We seek an individual who can leverage their technical knowledge, leadership capabilities, and commitment to quality to make a significant impact on safe human spaceflight.

Passion for our mission and vision is essential.

Key Responsibilities:
• Develop comprehensive manufacturing work instructions to clearly outline processes including inspection, fabrication, assembly, testing, disassembly, and refurbishment.
• Continuously enhance manufacturing processes through defect elimination and cycle time reduction.
• Oversee cost, quality, production sequence, and schedule of hardware throughout the entire manufacturing lifecycle.
• Review engineering drawings and provide final approval for manufacturing processes.
• Establish process control measures and evaluations through statistical analysis.
• Define and support repair and rework initiatives.
• Design, procure, install, and integrate specialized manufacturing equipment.
• Collaborate with external suppliers and manufacturing partners to ensure accurate, timely, and budget-compliant delivery of hardware and equipment.
• Conduct capacity analyses for manufacturing equipment and processes.
• Perform root cause analyses for non-conformances and implement corrective actions.
• Develop precise material handling and packaging solutions to safeguard hardware throughout the build and testing phases.
• Lead hardware configuration management and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build and test process.

Minimum Qualifications:
• 3+ years of relevant experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (or a related field) from an accredited institution.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, diverse team environment that supports continuously evolving design iterations.
• Familiarity with lean manufacturing principles and methodologies.
• Proficient in interpreting engineering models, drawings, specifications, written work instructions, and testing procedures.
• Strong communication skills, capable of engaging effectively at all organizational levels.
• Exceptional interpersonal, analytical, and project management abilities, with a keen eye for detail.
• Hands-on experience in hardware processing techniques (e.g., casting, forging, additive manufacturing, welding, machining, cleaning, non-destructive testing, tight tolerance assembly, leak testing, final acceptance testing, and Manufacturing Execution Systems/software).
• Proven track record of completing manufacturing projects focused on manufacturability, cycle time reduction, and mistake-proofing systems.
• Ability to build trust, maintain positive professional relationships, and enhance our culture of inclusion.
• Familiarity with AS9100 or a comparable quality management system.
• Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
