Job Overview

Position: Reserve Police Officer

Type: Part-time, Volunteer

The Oakland Housing Authority is seeking dedicated individuals to serve as Reserve Police Officers. This role involves working under the guidance of full-time sworn personnel to ensure the safety and security of Authority-owned properties.

Key Responsibilities

As a Reserve Police Officer, your primary duties will include:

  • Preventing crime and safeguarding life and property.
  • Conducting patrols of Authority properties, both on foot and in vehicles.
  • Enforcing applicable laws and regulations.
  • Responding to both emergency and non-emergency situations.
  • Collaborating with other law enforcement agencies.
  • Investigating incidents and unusual activities on Authority premises.
  • Participating in community outreach and safety programs.
  • Preparing detailed reports and maintaining accurate records.
Qualifications

To be considered for this position, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Minimum age of 20.5 years at the time of application.
  • Possession of a valid California Driver's License with a clean driving record.
  • Availability to work a minimum of 20 hours per month, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Current enrollment or graduation from a police academy or completion of Reserve Modules 1 or 2.
Preferred Skills

Bilingual abilities in languages such as ASL, Mandarin, Cantonese, Vietnamese, or Spanish are advantageous.

Additional Requirements

Applicants should have knowledge of:

  • The California Penal and Vehicle Codes.
  • Legal rights of citizens and court procedures.

Skills in effective communication, report writing, and emergency response are essential. Candidates must also demonstrate the ability to work independently and maintain community relations.

Selection Process

The selection process will involve a comprehensive review of applications, followed by a physical ability test, oral interview, writing assessment, and background investigation. Successful candidates will undergo medical and psychological evaluations.
