Job Title: Athletic Turf Management Supervisor at Vanderbilt University

The Athletic Turf Management Supervisor plays a crucial role within the Facilities Grounds team, specifically supporting the Athletic crew in the Maintenance and Operations Department at Vanderbilt University.

About the Role:

The Facilities Department at Vanderbilt University oversees various functions including construction, renovation, maintenance, housekeeping, grounds care, turf management, and utility services throughout the campus. This department encompasses Campus Planning & Construction, Maintenance and Operations, the Business Operations Center, and Real Estate.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the Assistant Grounds Athletic Manager to devise and execute turf management strategies for athletic surfaces.
  • Effectively utilize turf care chemicals in accordance with best practices.
  • Plan and monitor turf care schedules and activities.
  • Identify and address turf-related challenges.
  • Lead a team of Turf Care Specialists.
  • Operate turf maintenance machinery proficiently.
  • Carry out minor irrigation system repairs.
  • Assist during athletic events and competitions.
  • Oversee landscape maintenance in stadium areas.
  • Guide additional personnel within the Athletic Turf crew.
  • Adapt to winter weather conditions as necessary.
  • Utilize paint machines for field markings.
  • Fulfill other assigned responsibilities as needed.

Supervisory Structure:

This position reports directly to the Assistant Grounds Manager - Athletics and supervises a team of two Turf Specialists, with occasional oversight of additional staff.

Qualifications and Certifications:

  • A Bachelor's degree is preferred.
  • A Tennessee Applicators License must be obtained within six months of employment.
  • A valid Driver's License is required.

Experience and Competencies:

  • Three to five years of experience in turfgrass management.
  • Familiarity with NCAA and SEC regulations is advantageous.
  • Basic communication and computer skills are desirable.
  • Physical capability to perform the necessary tasks.
