The Aerospace Engineering Lead plays a crucial role in delivering technical expertise to support both fixed-wing and rotary-wing Aircraft Structural Integrity Programs (ASIP), alongside performing analyses that bolster aircraft maintenance and modification initiatives.

This role necessitates the capacity to operate autonomously, collaborate within a technical team, or take charge as a lead engineer.

  • Provide expert technical guidance within the engineering division;
  • Establish and uphold technical analysis standards;
  • Assist in the creation of analytical tools and software;
  • Formulate analysis plans for technical projects;
  • Review and endorse engineering analyses;
  • Lead a team of engineers and technologists in conducting structural assessments of aircraft designs;
  • Engage in aircraft modification projects;
  • Support investigations into failures;
  • Coordinate with other engineering departments to provide comprehensive engineering support;
  • Prepare engineering cost assessments;
  • Draft certification plans and compliance programs, establishing the basis for certification for both civilian and military modifications;
  • Develop and maintain engineering airworthiness procedures and process manuals, ensuring alignment with departmental policies;
  • Oversee the preparation of formal reports and other engineering deliverables;
  • Perform additional job-related responsibilities as required.
Qualifications:

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aeronautical or Mechanical Engineering, along with relevant experience in aerospace engineering.

Eligibility for membership in, or good standing with, the Association of Professional Engineers of Nova Scotia (APENS) or an equivalent body is required.

Demonstrated expertise in aircraft structures and systems, with experience in aircraft design and modifications is essential.

Key Skills:
  • In-depth knowledge of structural analysis techniques, including:
  • Development of loads/spectra;
  • Finite Element Method (FEM) and classical stress analysis (static);
  • Fatigue and damage tolerance analysis;
  • Familiarity with on-aircraft testing and data collection;
  • Experience in data collection, reduction, analysis, and trending;
  • Development of aircraft inspection and maintenance programs;
  • Understanding of OEM engineering drawing data and systems;
  • Knowledge of military and commercial certification processes;
  • Proficiency in MS Office and Windows environments.

The ability to collaborate effectively with individuals at all organizational levels and external agencies is crucial.

Commitment to I.M.P. Occupational Health, Safety, and Environment policies is expected, with a focus on personal and collective safety.

Participation in Continuous Improvement, Lean, and 5S initiatives is encouraged.

Applicants must meet the requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Secret Level II Security Clearance through PSPC-Contract Security Program, and Transport Canada RAIC clearance.
