DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
Our engineering division consists of four primary departments: Current Product Engineering (CPE), New Product Engineering (NPE), Product Validation, and the Colorado Technology Center (CTC).
Validation Engineering:
The Validation Engineering Team is essential in delivering top-tier transit buses through rigorous testing of components, systems, and vehicles to meet both internal and external standards.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Development of requirements, test procedures, and reports.
Vehicle preparation and instrumentation.
Support testing efforts in both laboratory and field settings.
Data collection and analysis using serial data, eDAQ, and direct measurements.
Ensuring compliance with all regulatory and emissions standards.
In-house and supplier software is developed and tested in a bench environment prior to release.
Finite Element Analysis and simulation.
ABOUT THE ROLE
We seek a dedicated and passionate FEA professional to lead and mentor the team at GILLIG. The ideal candidate will focus on developing best-in-class vehicles that meet the industry's highest reliability and quality standards. This individual will be responsible for advancing GILLIG's in-house simulation capabilities.
IN THIS ROLE YOU WILL
Lead the development of infrastructure and establish a framework for MBD, FEA, and CFD modeling tool suites, enabling GILLIG to internalize this expertise.
Collaborate with senior leadership to ensure alignment of expectations, adhere to budgetary constraints, and set priorities for immediate and future initiatives.
Oversee projects, running simulations on programs and enhancing MBD, FEA, and CFD models.
Conduct Modal and Vibration Induced Fatigue Analysis on both simple and complex systems and vehicles.
Correlate models with test data to identify realistic boundary conditions.
Demonstrate the ability to work independently and collaboratively on challenging problems requiring innovative solutions.
Deliver analysis on demanding projects, often under tight timelines.
Perform advanced CAE simulations to assess and enhance vehicle, systems, and component performance as needed.
Document and contextualize simulation results for Program and Engineering Leadership, providing detailed analysis reports and design change recommendations based on simulation outcomes.
Facilitate consulting design review meetings to provide guidance on critical design decisions.
Execute additional duties as required.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum of 8 years of progressive product engineering experience required.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSME), Electrical Engineering (BSEE), or other engineering disciplines preferred. A Master's degree in an engineering discipline is a plus.
In-depth knowledge of Finite Element Analysis, Applied Solid Mechanics, Material Science, heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and thermodynamics.
Experience with aluminum, steel, composite structures, and various advanced joining methods for shock and vibration analysis.
Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships with team members and customers for problem-solving and issue resolution.
Solid analytical skills and solution-oriented thinking, capable of collecting and researching data, using intuition and experience to complement data. Make informed decisions based on a mix of analysis, wisdom, experience, and judgment.
Hands-on experience with tools such as LS-DYNA, Python, R, MATLAB, Ansys, etc.
Detail-oriented with highly organized documentation practices and the ability to prioritize tasks and work independently.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Relevant experience with heavy-duty vehicle systems engineering and integration is a plus.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Ability to lift 25 lbs.
Regularly required to sit for extended periods, stand, walk, and occasionally kneel or squat.
Fast-paced work environment.
EXPECTED COMPENSATION
$75,000 - $275,000 annual salary + premium benefits.
Compensation may vary based on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job classification, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The total compensation package for this position may also include other elements dependent on the position offered.
