Position Overview:
This role involves considerable independence in initiating and developing designs, procedures, techniques, and solutions to complex opto-mechanical engineering challenges. Responsibilities are typically outlined in broad terms, focusing on specifications, objectives, anticipated results, and critical reference points that require special attention.

Key Responsibilities:
1. Innovate technical solutions to enhance optical performance of hardware, considering thermal and structural impacts on optical systems, whether terrestrial, airborne, or space-related.
2. Serve as the primary technical contact for communication within company management and with customers or government regulatory agencies.
3. Document work through detailed drawings, presentations, analyses, and test reports. Provide technical presentations as needed for both internal and external stakeholders.
4. Utilize CAD software (Solidworks) for design generation and provide expert guidance to colleagues facing challenging opto-mechanical issues.
5. Anticipate future engineering needs and necessary modifications to achieve technical goals.
6. Direct the activities of design or technical staff and potentially lead a team of moderately experienced professionals.
7. Maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and perform additional duties as assigned.

Compliance and Safety:
Responsible for adhering to all applicable laws, regulations, and obligations while conducting business on behalf of the company. Expected to work safely in accordance with established procedures and practices.

Qualifications:
Typically requires a bachelor's degree, master's degree, or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution, along with progressive engineering experience: four or more years with a bachelor's degree or two or more years with a master's degree. Equivalent engineering experience may substitute for formal education.
Prior experience in opto-mechanical engineering or optical technologies is essential, with a solid understanding of optical integration techniques. Ability to conduct functional testing, data capture, and alignment verification is required.
Demonstrated expertise in opto-mechanical principles, concepts, and practices, with the capability to organize, plan, schedule, and coordinate workloads to meet deadlines. Experience in project leadership is advantageous.
Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills are necessary for effective collaboration with other departments and professionals. A customer-focused approach is essential for developing innovative designs to resolve complex engineering challenges.
Must be capable of working independently and as part of a team, with the flexibility to work extended hours and travel as needed.
A Professional Engineering License, published works in professional journals, and invitations to present at engineering symposiums are desirable. The ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance is required.

Salary Range:
$81,080 - $141,650
