Position Overview:

The Nurse Manager for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) oversees the 24-hour operations of departments dedicated to patient care services. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the nursing staff delivers high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care while adhering to all local, state, and federal regulations. The manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical standards of care and practice, as well as managing resource allocation and budgeting.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs the daily operations of the PACU across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Practice Act and regulatory standards.
  • Develops, implements, and upholds patient care and service standards that align with the expectations of members and internal stakeholders.
  • Analyzes and enhances processes to optimize patient care outcomes throughout the care continuum.
  • Creates and oversees budgets to ensure the effective use of human and material resources, while monitoring financial performance to identify cost-reduction strategies.
  • Determines optimal staffing levels and leads the recruitment, training, and competency assessment of department personnel, promoting ongoing professional development.
  • Formulates, enacts, and reviews departmental policies and procedures that support organizational objectives.
  • Guides the establishment of care standards and practice protocols, while directing fiscal management and quality improvement initiatives.

Qualifications:
Experience:
  • A minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in a relevant specialty, including four (4) years in a management or leadership role.
Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing.
Licensure and Certification:
  • California Registered Nurse License required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification is mandatory.
Additional Requirements:
  • Leadership experience is defined for internal applicants as demonstrated clinical nursing leadership, participation in professional committees, or completion of leadership development programs.
  • Familiarity with the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission standards, and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills are essential.
  • ACLS or PALS certification may be required based on departmental needs.
  • National Certification is preferred within one year of hire.
  • Ability to thrive in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of management experience is preferred.
  • Experience with Magnet/shared governance is a plus.
  • Experience managing in a bargaining environment is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
