Position Overview:

The Nurse Manager for the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) oversees the 24-hour operations of departments dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care services. This role ensures that the nursing staff provides high-quality, accessible, and cost-effective care, adhering to local, state, and federal regulations. The manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical standards of care and practice, as well as managing all aspects of resource budgeting, selection, and development.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Directs the operations of 24-hour departments, potentially across multiple locations, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Practice Act and regulatory standards.
  • Establishes, implements, and upholds patient care and service standards that align with the expectations of members and internal clients.
  • Designs and assesses processes aimed at enhancing systems and patient care outcomes throughout the care continuum.
  • Develops and oversees budgets to ensure the effective use of human and material resources, while monitoring financial performance and implementing strategies to reduce costs and enhance care quality.
  • Determines the optimal staffing mix for the department and creates processes for screening, interviewing, hiring, training, and maintaining staff competency. Promotes ongoing staff development and addresses human resource, employee safety, and risk management issues.
  • Formulates, executes, and reviews departmental policies and procedures that support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Supervises the development of care standards and practices, directs fiscal management, and leads quality improvement initiatives.

Basic Qualifications: Experience
  • A minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty area, including four (4) years of management or supervisory experience.
Education
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing.
License, Certification, Registration
  • Registered Nurse License (California) required upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification.
Additional Requirements:
  • Leadership experience is defined for internal applicants as demonstrated clinical nursing leadership in roles such as Charge/Senior RN, participation in professional committees, or completion of leadership development programs.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission standards, and other relevant regulations.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills are essential.
  • ACLS or PALS certification may be required for specific departmental roles.
  • National Certification is preferred within one year of hire.
  • Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of management experience is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in Magnet/shared governance is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience managing in a bargaining environment is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
