Position Overview:

The Nurse Manager for the Post-Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) oversees the daily operations of departments dedicated to patient care services. This role ensures that the nursing staff delivers exceptional, accessible, and cost-efficient care while adhering to patient-centered service standards that comply with all relevant regulations. The manager is responsible for establishing and maintaining clinical care standards and managing resource allocation effectively.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Oversees the operations of 24-hour departments, potentially across multiple sites, ensuring compliance with the Nursing Practice Act and other regulatory standards.
  • Implements and maintains patient care standards that align with the expectations of members and internal stakeholders.
  • Designs and assesses processes aimed at enhancing systems and patient care outcomes throughout the care continuum.
  • Develops and manages budgets to ensure optimal use of human and material resources, while monitoring financial performance and identifying strategies for cost reduction and quality improvement.
  • Determines the appropriate staffing mix for the department and establishes processes for recruitment, training, and competency maintenance of all staff members. Ensures ongoing professional development.
  • Creates, implements, and reviews departmental policies and procedures that support organizational goals and objectives.
  • Directs the establishment of care standards and practices, oversees fiscal management, and leads quality improvement initiatives.
  • It is important to note that the organization reserves the right to review and modify job descriptions as necessary.
Qualifications:
Experience:
  • A minimum of four (4) years of clinical nursing experience in the relevant specialty area, including four (4) years in a management or leadership role.
Education:
  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program. A Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Nursing is required.
Licensure and Certification:
  • Must possess a valid Registered Nurse License (California) upon hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification is required.
Additional Requirements:
  • Leadership experience criteria apply to internal applicants only, including demonstrated clinical nursing leadership and participation in professional committees.
  • Knowledge of the Nurse Practice Act, The Joint Commission standards, and other relevant regulations is essential.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills are required.
  • ACLS or PALS certification may be necessary for specific departmental roles.
  • National Certification is preferred within one year of hire.
  • Ability to work effectively in a Labor/Management Partnership environment is essential.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Two (2) years of management experience is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience in Magnet/shared governance is preferred.
  • One (1) year of experience managing in a bargaining environment is preferred.
  • A Master’s degree is preferred.
