Position Overview

The Office of the President at a prestigious university is in search of a talented, innovative, and dedicated individual to assist with a wide array of communication and research initiatives on behalf of the President and Vice President. Reporting directly to the Assistant Vice President for Institutional Affairs, this role involves collaboration with the President and Vice President on various writing assignments, including the development of speeches, reports, presentations, videos, statements, articles, correspondence, and other essential materials.

This position offers a unique opportunity to engage in diverse projects at the highest levels of university leadership.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the creation of high-quality written materials such as speeches, introductions, letters, and presentations, ensuring thorough research, fact-checking, writing, editing, and collaboration with various offices and individuals.
  • Collaborate closely with colleagues in the Office of the President to ensure the successful completion of writing projects.
  • Conduct research related to speaking engagements, events, strategic initiatives, and other activities.
  • Work in partnership with colleagues across the university to craft communications that effectively engage a wide range of audiences and stakeholders with differing perspectives.
  • Provide on-site support at university events where the President is presenting, as needed.
  • Handle sensitive assignments with discretion, exercising sound editorial judgment while maintaining the trust of senior administrators.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all facts and details in speeches, statements, and quotes issued on behalf of the President.
Qualifications
  • Exceptional writing skills, with the ability to produce clear, persuasive, and timely content in the President's voice on a variety of topics related to higher education.
  • Proven ability to comprehend complex issues and distill them for key audiences.
  • Willingness to meet the President's expectations for written style and content, responding to feedback and revisions promptly.
  • High integrity, trustworthiness, and respect; strong discretion and judgment; adept at managing confidential information.
  • Strong research capabilities and meticulous attention to grammatical and factual details.
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently.
  • Outstanding organizational skills with a proven track record of managing multiple deadlines and tasks effectively.
  • Excellent skills in copyediting and proofreading.
Preferred Qualifications
  • 1-3 years of professional writing experience.
  • Familiarity with the higher education sector.
  • Experience in writing for diverse audiences.

This is a term position with potential for extension.
