Key Responsibilities:
The Senior Pharmacy Technician plays a vital role in supporting pharmacists by executing various technical tasks related to the preparation and distribution of pharmaceutical services. This includes:

  • Locating, dispensing, packaging, and labeling medications for pharmacist verification prior to patient or automated dispensing cabinet delivery.
  • Receiving and organizing incoming pharmaceutical supplies and medications.
  • Creating intravenous infusions in a sterile environment using aseptic techniques.
  • Communicating effectively with hospital personnel through both written and verbal channels.
  • Utilizing computer systems to access the Hospital Information System.
  • Maintaining and operating essential pharmacy equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
  • Ensuring the availability of medications and supplies throughout the hospital.
  • Employing proper lifting techniques for heavy equipment and medical supplies.
  • Restocking work areas as necessary.
  • Adhering to compliance requirements and policies, conducting responsibilities ethically in alignment with organizational values.
  • Upholding confidentiality standards in accordance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Following departmental dress code policies.
  • Compounding sterile medications with precision, including dose calculations and measurements.
  • Demonstrating consistency in attendance, punctuality, and overall performance.
  • Maintaining licensure and certifications with the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board.
  • Exhibiting a professional and collaborative demeanor.
  • Preparing restocks for automated dispensing cabinets, ensuring pharmacist verification.
  • Managing daily narcotic orders and ensuring accurate product scanning in relevant systems.
  • Overseeing narcotic inventory, including monitoring usage, par levels, and handling returns and expirations.
  • Collaborating with auditors to address any discrepancies.
  • Assisting with additional pharmacy-related tasks as required.

Qualifications:
To be considered for this position, candidates must possess a high school diploma or equivalent, hold a current registration with the Alabama State Board of Pharmacy as a Pharmacy Technician, and be IV trained and certified by the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board. A minimum of two years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician is highly preferred.
