Key Responsibilities:

- Support pharmaceutical operations and activities related to medication management and monitoring across all patient care areas, adhering to departmental and institutional protocols.
- Engage in studies, quality assessments, and drug evaluations aimed at enhancing pharmaceutical care and clinical outcomes.
- Execute patient care tasks within the pharmacy information system efficiently and safely.
- Utilize technology to access the Hospital Information System or the Pharmacy Purchasing System.
- Perform general pharmacy functions, including the preparation and dispensing of medications, IV solutions, and compounds, including Chemotherapy.
- Dispense controlled substances in accordance with established regulations.
- Verify the accuracy of work conducted by pharmacy technicians, including unit dose carts.
- Review physician orders for appropriate administration routes, dosages, schedules, and potential drug interactions, consulting with physicians as necessary.
- Act as a resource for medical and nursing personnel regarding pharmaceutical matters.
- Provide medication information to patients as required.
- Promote the use of formulary medications among pharmacy and physician staff.
- Communicate effectively with physicians, patients, families, and healthcare teams in person and via telephone, employing appropriate customer service skills.
- Respond to overhead pages and maintain accurate and complete records.
- Utilize correct documentation methods for all pharmacy operations.
- Maintain proper records for all medications and controlled substances dispensed or received.
- Complete all assigned duties positively and collaboratively, contributing to departmental performance improvements.
- Fulfill all mandatory training and educational requirements.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of workspaces, equipment, and supply areas.
- Adhere to compliance standards and policies, performing responsibilities ethically and in alignment with organizational values.
- Uphold hospital policies, including confidentiality.
- Train and orient new pharmacy staff regarding departmental functions.
- Safely execute essential duties with minimal supervision, employing proper body mechanics when handling equipment and supplies.
- Maintain and operate equipment, reporting any malfunctions.
- Follow current infection control and safety protocols.
- Implement cost-effective practices in all job aspects.
- Demonstrate the ability to provide competent patient care across various age groups, including neonates, infants, toddlers, preschoolers, school-age children, adolescents, reproductive-age individuals, and post/peri-menopausal patients.
- Participate in assigned committees and performance improvement initiatives through quality measurement or ICARE process involvement.
- Access and accurately maintain both electronic and paper medical records.
- Exhibit regular and prompt attendance, adhering to defined work schedules and overtime requirements.

Qualifications:

- Graduation from an accredited pharmacy school recognized by the University of South Alabama.
- Licensure to practice pharmacy in the State of Alabama and possession of a Controlled Substances certificate.
- Completion of an approved Alabama Board of Pharmacy IV certification program is required within three months of employment.
