Position Overview:

This role involves engaging in various projects of moderate complexity, focusing on field observations and inspections, and may include working with steel through both destructive and non-destructive testing (NDT).

Key Responsibilities:

  • Field Operations: Conduct observations, testing, inspections, and sampling of diverse construction materials, particularly in structural steel placement and reinforcement. Execute tasks in alignment with project specifications under the supervision of senior technicians and project managers. Inspections may also take place in fabrication facilities or on mechanical piping systems and pressure vessels.
  • Testing Methodologies: Perform routine assessments of structural and reinforcing steel, including welded or bolted connections, utilizing various methodologies and testing equipment in accordance with industry standards for documentation and compliance. Testing may encompass ground penetrating radar (GPR) structural surveys, material verification, and corrosion assessments.
  • Data Management: Execute calculations and data analysis based on sampling, test outcomes, and inspections. Participate in drafting and other administrative tasks as necessary. Ensure the organization of field equipment and report any broken or missing items to the supervisor.
  • Communication: Maintain consistent communication with site contractors, fellow technicians, and project managers, keeping the team updated on changing site conditions and additional testing requests. Relay test results to the project team and provide technical guidance to resolve issues.
  • Training and Mentorship: Engage in training on ECS methodologies for project observations, inspections, and testing. Document findings accurately in line with accepted engineering practices. Mentor junior technicians as they develop their skills and contribute to larger projects.

Qualifications:

Essential Requirements:

  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Current ASNT CP 9712 Certification or ECS PQC NDE Certification to Level II in at least two methods, one of which must be a volumetric/advanced method.
  • Ability to carry 40-70 lbs multiple times daily or occasionally lift 85 lbs to waist height.
  • Valid driver's license and insurance required.
  • Must provide appropriate transportation for job site use; mileage will be reimbursed.
  • Strong communication skills in speaking, reading, and writing.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of destructive and non-destructive testing principles, applications, and standards.
  • Solid understanding of heavy construction safety practices and procedures.
  • Capability to perform work at heights.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with clients, peers, and supervisors.
  • Proficiency with electronic devices such as phones, tablets, and laptops.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret engineering and construction plans.
  • Basic knowledge of MS Office applications.
  • If focused on NDE testing, ability to calibrate NDE equipment is essential.
