Position Type: Direct Hire

Compensation: $30 - $38/HR (Negotiable for the right candidate)

Work Schedule: 1st shift, Monday - Friday, 8am - 4:00pm

Location: River Grove, IL

Position Summary:

The CNC Machining Specialist is responsible for executing intricate machining and fitting tasks on various components, tools, and machinery by programming and operating CNC equipment to support production processes or job shop machining.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Independently develop, modify, and execute programs to set up and operate CNC and manual machines for complex machining tasks, including precise tolerances and unique specifications.
  • Assess machine tools, feeds, speeds, and setups to minimize scrap and prevent equipment damage, while monitoring operations and taking preventive measures as necessary.
  • Measure components to ensure compliance with specifications and apply Statistical Process Control (SPC) principles to machining activities.
  • Conduct first-piece inspections for produced items and assist fellow machinists as required.
  • Perform deburring and other secondary operations as needed.
  • Instruct other machinists on programming and editing procedures for the CNC equipment available in the workshop.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline operations by consolidating tasks from multiple machines into a single CNC setup.
  • Adhere to estimated job times and meet deadlines as outlined in job documentation.
  • Maintain an organized work environment utilizing 5S and Lean methodologies.
  • Collaborate effectively within a team setting.
  • Communicate clearly with the shop manager and team members regarding inquiries, uncertainties, and routine processes to ensure quality outcomes.
Essential Qualifications:
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience with Haas vertical and horizontal mills, Haas lathes, Mori Seiki lathes, and/or Ycm lathes with live tooling.
  • Proficient in writing CNC programs.
  • Prior experience in programming CNC machinery.
  • Knowledgeable in programming, setting up, and operating manual lathes, mills, drills, and CNC equipment.
  • Familiarity with hand tools used in machining and measurement.
  • Ability to effectively use calibration and measurement instruments.
  • Capable of performing progressive machining operations for metal components with stringent tolerances.
  • Experience working with various materials, including carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum.
  • Ability to interpret technical drawings and work instructions.
  • Solid understanding of feeds, speeds, inserts, and machine tools.
  • Physically capable of lifting and moving parts, utilizing hoists when necessary.
  • Adept at taking and recording measurements accurately.
  • Knowledgeable in Statistical Process Control (SPC).
  • Willingness to learn new skills and pursue personal development.
  • Proactive in identifying and proposing improvements in machining applications and other organizational areas.
  • Committed to learning and implementing Lean processes and identifying improvement opportunities.
  • Familiar with ISO9001 procedures and work instructions.
  • Willing to assist and mentor fellow machinists when needed.
  • Contributes to maintaining and enhancing the work environment.
  • Organizes work efficiently to optimize time and meet job schedules.
  • Understands the balance between quantity and quality of work.
  • Demonstrates effective and respectful communication with colleagues in both individual and team contexts.
  • Exhibits a team-oriented and flexible attitude.

Additional Requirements:
  • Fluency in English is required.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in machining.
  • Able to manually lift and move items weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Good eyesight to fulfill the responsibilities outlined above.
