Position Overview:

The Community Lending Mortgage Banker role is a vital opportunity within our organization. This position is dedicated to the sales of primary mortgage and concurrent second loan products tailored for our diverse clientele. The responsibilities include engaging in external sales activities to foster new business relationships and enhance existing client connections through our mortgage offerings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • External Sales: Initiate residential mortgage loans and related banking products while expanding a network of referral sources. The majority of originations will be sourced through professional relationships such as real estate agents, attorneys, CPAs, business managers, nonprofits, trade organizations, and financial advisors.
  • Client Engagement: Conduct visits to clients or their representatives at their business locations to prospect for and originate mortgage loans.
  • Loan Counseling: Provide ethical and sound loan advice to all potential applicants.
  • Liaison Role: Act as the intermediary between the bank and the customer throughout the processing and underwriting phases to ensure timely service and exceptional customer care.
  • Application Management: Complete loan applications and related processes in accordance with bank policies, procedures, and applicable laws.
  • Application Submission: Forward comprehensive application packages to Processing and Underwriting while adhering to TRID requirements.
  • Strategy Development: Create and implement sourcing strategies aligned with written objectives.
  • Performance Goals: Meet or exceed both quantitative and qualitative targets as established by sales management.
  • Industry Knowledge: Stay informed about sales techniques, product offerings, legal requirements, and industry trends.
  • Software Proficiency: Gain and maintain expertise in the specific software systems utilized by the bank related to mortgage originations.
  • Training Participation: Attend scheduled sales meetings, training sessions, and bank functions.
  • Community Engagement: Build and maintain active relationships with civic organizations within assigned territories for community service and business development.
  • Commitment to Community: Dedicate efforts to nonprofit organizations and positively impact the community.
  • Loan Volume Growth: Focus on increasing mortgage loan volume, particularly in underserved communities and low to moderate-income areas.

Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma required.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in retail residential mortgage sales.
  • At least 3 years of experience in a community lending team.
  • 5 years of experience working with diverse and underserved clients.
  • Must comply with the Secure and Fair Enforcement for Mortgage Licensing Act of 2008 (Safe Act) and be registered with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System and Registry.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Preferred network of professional and nonprofit referral sources.
  • BA/BS degree preferred, particularly in business, finance, or economics.
  • Proven sales and marketing capabilities.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills across all audiences.
  • Familiarity with software such as Net Oxygen, Salesforce, Blend, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Understanding of mortgage credit policies and compliance standards.
  • Commitment to the bank's CRA efforts and responsible banking goals.

Compensation: The starting base salary ranges from $80,000 to $100,000 annually, with potential for bonuses and commissions based on performance.
