Position: Community Lending Officer

The Community Lending Officer plays a crucial role in fostering mortgage sales and nurturing client relationships by engaging with community members, diverse real estate professionals, and affordable housing non-profit organizations in collaboration with the Consumer Product Sales team. This position is directly accountable for promoting a specific range of lending products to clients.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with clients to discuss their financial circumstances, aspirations, and lending requirements to assist them in achieving their home ownership objectives.
  • Gather and evaluate data regarding the client's financial status, personal goals, risk tolerance, future plans, income, assets, liabilities, cash flow, and credit history.
  • Assess financial information to determine initial eligibility for various lending solutions.
  • Provide tailored recommendations to clients regarding the most suitable lending options that align with their financial and personal goals.
  • Inform clients about the implications, risks, and advantages of different lending alternatives.
  • Enhance Citi's brand presence by promoting its lending and financial services to real estate agencies, builders, and other referral sources.
  • Conduct client meetings outside of the office, adapting to clientele needs, geographical factors, and market conditions.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support and expand client relationships.
  • Direct clients seeking financial services beyond lending to the appropriate Citi professionals.
  • Coordinate with Operations teams to ensure smooth processing of loan applications and necessary documentation.
  • Work closely with Processors and clients to facilitate timely loan closings.
  • Engage with key referral sources such as Realtors and Builders to drive mortgage business.
  • Evaluate risks in business decisions, prioritizing the firm's reputation and compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Introduce clients to relevant segment partners when appropriate.
  • Stay informed about local market trends and regulatory changes to better serve clients and industry stakeholders.
  • Participate in a minimum of 2-3 community-focused events each month.

Qualifications:

  • 2-5 years of relevant experience in mortgage lending.
  • Experience in residential mortgage is essential.
  • A minimum of 3 years in mortgage sales is required.
  • Established connections with diverse realtor organizations and affordable lending nonprofits.
  • Familiarity with community loan products, including specialized LMI mortgage solutions.
  • A proven track record of business development.
  • Experience with FHA/VA and conventional loans is preferred.
  • Ability to interpret and explain financial calculations and pricing options.
  • Strong communication skills to guide clients through necessary documentation for loan applications.
  • Knowledge of consumer lending regulations, including fair lending and privacy laws.
  • Demonstrated customer service excellence.
  • Self-driven with the ability to work independently.
  • Strong skills in relationship building and management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of general lending products and the mortgage industry.
  • Registration as a mortgage loan originator with the Nationwide Mortgage Licensing System is required.
  • Originate a minimum of 3 loans per month, with at least 50% being CRA eligible or within minority areas.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
