Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Seafood Order Writer to join our team at Whole Foods Market. As a key member of our seafood department, you will be responsible for ensuring the accurate and timely ordering of seafood products, maintaining inventory levels, and providing exceptional customer service.

Key Responsibilities
  • Replenish seafood products through proper buying procedures, ensuring accurate and timely ordering to meet customer demand.
  • Monitor and act upon open PO reports for both purchases and credits, maintaining accurate records and resolving any discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Control spoilage and shrink, achieving turn goals and participating in inventory management to optimize product availability and minimize waste.
  • Complete spoilage, sampling, temperature, and sweep worksheets as required, ensuring compliance with food safety and quality standards.
  • Oversee customer special order procedures, ensuring accurate and timely fulfillment of customer requests.
  • Analyze and control product transfers, waste, and spoilage, identifying areas for improvement and implementing solutions to optimize product availability and minimize waste.
  • Support leadership in conducting inventories, ensuring accurate and timely completion of inventory tasks and providing recommendations for process improvements.
  • Maintain financial profitability by meeting and exceeding purchasing and sales targets, ensuring accurate and timely reporting of sales and inventory data.
  • Separate, scan, and dispose of spoilage and shrink, maintaining a clean and organized workspace and adhering to company standards for product handling and disposal.
  • Arrive to work station on time, appropriately groomed, dressed, and ready to work, working all scheduled shifts and attending required trainings and meetings.
  • Provide excellent customer service, addressing customer needs in a timely and effective manner and modeling suggestive selling techniques to drive sales and customer satisfaction.
  • Maximize sales potential through effective and proper procedures for prepping, storing, rotating, stocking, and merchandising product, ensuring accurate and timely execution of sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Follow and comply with established procedures, including weights and measures, health and sanitation, and safe work practices, maintaining a clean and sanitary working and shopping environment.
  • Perform opening, mid, and closing duties as assigned, ensuring accuracy of signs and pricing and maintaining a clean and organized workspace.
  • Immediately report safety hazards and violations, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment for all team members and customers.
Requirements
  • Comprehensive knowledge of seafood products, including species, sourcing, and handling procedures.
  • Working knowledge and application of all seafood merchandising expectations, including product rotation, display, and pricing.
  • Ability to educate team members on product knowledge and convey enthusiasm for seafood products.
  • Strong basic math skills, including ability to accurately calculate inventory levels, sales data, and other financial metrics.
  • Knowledge and ability to use computer programs such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and ordering systems, ensuring accurate and timely execution of sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Strong to excellent communication skills and willingness to work as part of a team, providing exceptional customer service and supporting colleagues in achieving sales and customer satisfaction goals.
  • Ability to deliver information in a clear and respectful manner to fellow team members, customers, and vendors, ensuring accurate and timely communication of sales and marketing initiatives.
  • Ability to meet customer service expectations and standards in all interactions with customers, vendors, and team members, providing exceptional service and support to drive sales and customer satisfaction.

Desired Work Experience
  • 12+ months retail experience, preferably in a seafood or grocery environment.
Physical Requirements/Working Conditions
  • Must be able to lift 50 pounds, ensuring safe and efficient movement of products and equipment.
  • In an 8-hour workday, standing/walking 6-8 hours, with regular breaks to rest and recharge.
  • Hand use: single grasping, fine manipulation, pushing, and pulling, ensuring safe and efficient movement of products and equipment.
  • Work requires the following motions: bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching, ensuring safe and efficient movement of products and equipment.
  • Exposure to FDA-approved cleaning chemicals, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Exposure to temperatures: 90 degrees Fahrenheit, ensuring a safe and healthy work environment.
  • Ability to work in a wet and cold environment, ensuring safe and efficient movement of products and equipment.
  • Ability to handle knives and other cutting equipment, ensuring safe and efficient movement of products and equipment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed, ensuring accurate and timely execution of sales and marketing initiatives.
