Job Overview:

The Lead Electrical Systems Engineer is responsible for creating robust and efficient electro-mechanical designs for heavy-duty vehicle electrical systems. This role involves conducting thorough engineering analyses and enhancing existing electrical systems and subsystems to meet the demands of modern vehicles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct engineering calculations and investigations, adhering to both client specifications and industry standards, including the creation of one-line schematics that illustrate mechanical, electrical, and thermal connections.
  • Possess a comprehensive understanding of electro-mechanical power systems, including generator sizing and component positioning.
  • Ensure compliance with high voltage electrical safety protocols and standards.
  • Estimate available power and vehicle loads with minimal data.
  • Assist senior engineers in developing plans, designs, computational methods, and reporting.
  • Manage projects or segments of projects with limited complexity and potentially oversee multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Collaborate with various engineering and business support teams, as well as external suppliers, to ensure project success.
  • Support engineers, designers, or technicians in ensuring adequate space for wiring, thermal management, and component mounting by utilizing installation manuals and design experience.
  • Oversee the design and integration of electrical components and circuitry into heavy-duty vehicles, with a strong grasp of vehicle powertrain systems.
  • Provide technical support during prototype, pilot, or production builds, addressing manufacturing challenges as they arise.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned, with regular attendance being essential.

Qualifications:

  • Extensive knowledge and experience with electro-mechanical power systems, high voltage systems, and electrical safety, with a background in vehicle design and integration.
  • Capability to design thermal management systems is advantageous but not mandatory.
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited institution.
  • Familiarity with programming languages and control software is beneficial.
  • Knowledge of Controller Area Network (CAN)/SAE J1939 and vehicle networking is preferred.
  • Experience in automotive or heavy equipment repair or design.
  • Experience in wire harness design is a plus.

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related field, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience.
