Position Overview: High School Education Specialist (Moderate/Severe)

Lighthouse Community Public Schools seeks a dedicated High School Education Specialist (Moderate/Severe) who is deeply committed to ensuring that historically underserved students of color fulfill our mission of achieving college completion, securing their desired careers, and becoming impactful changemakers within their communities. Key Responsibilities:

Instructional Vision:

  • Establish and nurture a classroom environment that is supportive and focused on learning, characterized by effective management and inclusive practices for all students.
  • Implement culturally responsive teaching methods that empower students to engage with challenging content while maintaining high expectations.
  • Design and execute standards-based curricula that are tailored to meet the diverse needs of students, including those with IEPs.
  • Ensure student engagement and agency in their learning processes.
  • Utilize various assessment tools to monitor student progress and address learning needs.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.

Classroom and School Culture:

  • Foster a classroom culture that is inclusive and conducive to learning, ensuring the participation of all students.
  • Build strong relationships with students and families to create a collaborative learning community.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • B.A. or B.S. required; Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Valid California Teaching Credential or a commitment to obtain one.
  • Knowledge of California Common Core State Standards and mastery-based learning preferred.
  • Experience teaching urban youth with proven results preferred.
  • Familiarity with educational technology platforms.
  • Experience in progressive educational models.
  • Bilingual in Spanish preferred.

Supervision:

This position reports to the Senior Director of Special Education and Special Programming or their designee.

Time Commitment:

This is a full-time position following a 10-month work year, with ample opportunities for professional development and collaboration.
