POSITION SUMMARY

The Music Education Specialist fosters a supportive and secure atmosphere for individuals to explore the world of music and instrument mastery. Catering primarily to young learners, the specialist conducts group lessons under the supervision of Corps Officers and the Education Center Supervisor, ensuring that students experience the joy of music in a nurturing environment. The Education Center, part of The Salvation Army USA Western Territory, serves as an inclusive outreach initiative, embracing individuals from various cultural backgrounds, ethnicities, and age groups within the community.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Design and implement lesson plans aligned with curriculum goals, covering essential topics such as music theory, harmony, score reading, composition, and music appreciation.
  2. Deliver engaging instruction to children through demonstrations on various musical instruments, including but not limited to piano, drums, and guitar, as well as leading children and youth choirs.
  3. Regularly assess students' musical abilities and provide constructive feedback to identify areas for improvement, while tracking each student's progress throughout the music program.
  4. Prepare students for public performances and concerts, fostering their confidence and stage presence.
  5. Create and sustain an interactive and effective learning environment that encourages students to develop their musical talents.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  1. Proven experience in teaching music or related subjects to elementary-aged students.
  2. Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  3. Ability to demonstrate patience and resilience when working with challenging students.
  4. Strong organizational capabilities.
  5. Inspire and motivate students to engage in learning.
  6. Bilingual proficiency in English and Chinese is preferred.
  7. EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  8. A bachelor's degree (or higher) in music education or a related discipline is required.
  9. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  1. Ability to sit, walk, stand, bend, squat, climb, kneel, and twist intermittently or continuously.
  2. Capability to grasp, push, and/or pull objects as needed.
  3. Ability to reach overhead and lift up to 25 lbs. for administrative tasks.
  4. Proficiency in operating a computer and basic office equipment.
  5. Ability to process written, visual, and/or verbal information effectively.
