The Role
Lighthouse Community Public Schools seeks a dedicated High School Education Specialist Moderate/Severe who is passionately committed to ensuring that historically underserved students of color fulfill our mission of completing college, securing their desired careers, and becoming lifelong changemakers within their communities. Our educators believe that this vital mission is not only achievable but essential for transforming our Oakland community.

Key Responsibilities
Instructional Vision
- Establish and sustain a classroom environment that is supportive and focused on learning, underpinned by effective management, efficient procedures, and systems, while ensuring the full inclusion of African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs in the social and learning community.
- Implement culturally responsive teaching practices that equip students with the skills, practice, and daily opportunities to engage with rigorous content, maintaining high expectations and an asset-based approach for every learner.
- Design, internalize, and deliver effective, grade-level standards-based curriculum, units, and lessons that are learner-driven and adapted to meet the needs of students with IEPs, African-American, and ELL students.
- Ensure that students are central to their learning process and actively engaged in ways that promote agency and self-direction.
- Utilize, collect, and analyze rigorous, student-engaged assessments, both formative and summative, to identify and address students' growth areas and mastery of learning objectives.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Classroom & School Culture
- Foster and maintain a classroom culture that is supportive and learning-focused, characterized by strong management, efficient procedures, and systems, while ensuring the full inclusion of African-American boys, students with trauma, and students with IEPs in the social and learning community.
- Build positive relationships by nurturing and affirming teacher-student, student-student, and teacher-family partnerships, emphasizing a community of collaborative learners.

Minimum Qualifications
We welcome your application if your educational background includes:
- B.A. or B.S. required; Master's Degree preferred.
- Appropriate California Teaching Credential or a commitment to obtain one.
- In-depth knowledge of California Common Core State Standards, student-centered, mastery-based learning, curriculum planning, and data analysis preferred.
- 2+ years of experience teaching urban youth with transformational results preferred.
- Familiarity with educational platforms.
- Experience in a progressive school model.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
Supervision
This position will report to the Senior Director of Special Education and Special Programming, or their designee.
Time Commitment
This position is full-time and follows a 10-month work year with significant student-free days for professional learning and collaboration with colleagues and interaction with families. All new instructional staff will report at the designated start of the school year.
