The Special Education Instructional Support Specialist will assist students with disabilities (IEP students) within the educational setting and collaborate with the Special Education Teacher, General Education teachers, and/or Speech & Language Pathologist, while embodying the core values of Aspire Public Schools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the Special Education teacher in implementing Individual Education Plans (IEPs) for students in the classroom.
  • Deliver services, supports, and interventions directly to students under the guidance and supervision of Special Education teachers.
  • Assist in preparing materials to help classroom teachers modify curriculum for students.
  • Facilitate testing accommodations, such as supervising student assessments in separate locations or providing extended time.
  • Implement IEPs with fidelity, providing one-on-one support to students, assisting with toileting and health-related needs (under the supervision of the school nurse), and supporting students' physical needs (lifting, mobility assistance, and implementing exercise routines).
  • Develop and create instructional materials tailored to meet the individual needs of students.
  • Demonstrate understanding of and support Aspire Public Schools' mission, vision, values, policies, and ethical standards.
  • Engage in regular collaboration with members of the IEP team, including General Education teachers, Education Specialists, Speech and Language Pathologists, Instructional Aides, Administrators, Program Specialists, and other service providers.
Qualifications:
  • Understanding of child cognitive development and various learning styles.
  • Experience working with students who have moderate to severe needs.
  • Willingness and ability to implement individualized education programs.
  • Commitment to reflecting on and improving professional practice.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing conditions, with good judgment to modify activities as needed.
  • Associate's degree or completion of two years of college education.
  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Teaching, or a related field is preferred.
  • At least one year of experience working with students in special education with moderate/severe needs or in urban educational settings.
