We are looking for dedicated, compassionate, and career-oriented individuals to join our Early Learning Centers. Our programs cater to children from infancy to five years old, providing exceptional childcare and comprehensive support for families in need, ensuring that every child is equipped for a successful educational journey.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

Educational Support Specialists play a crucial role in assisting the Inclusion and Mental Health Specialists. The responsibilities of this position align with the Goals, Mission, and Policies of the YMCA of the East Bay. Our staff is committed to delivering high-quality care and education that addresses the diverse needs of children by implementing services that comply with Head Start Performance Standards, California Department of Education regulations, and Community Care Licensing.

The Educational Support Specialist will work within our Early Learning Centers in the designated area. This role requires the ability to travel between various sites as needed.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Assist neuro-diverse children (including those with developmental delays and social-emotional challenges) in accessing the curriculum and participating in daily activities.

2. Support the implementation of Positive Behavior Support Plans for children, either on a one-on-one basis or in small groups.

3. Establish rapport and trust with the children in your care.

4. Create a safe and nurturing educational environment.

5. Assess children's needs and apply intervention strategies outlined in the Positive Behavior Support Plan to mitigate challenging behaviors, while facilitating positive social interactions.

6. Guide children in the appropriate and safe use of facilities, materials, and equipment.

7. Instruct and supervise children in essential health and hygiene practices, assisting with daily routines.

8. Maintain knowledge of and adhere to Positive Behavior Guidance, YMCA Child Supervision policies, and Health and Safety requirements.

9. Collaborate effectively with Teachers, Center Directors, Family Advocates, and other YMCA staff to support children and families.

10. Document daily interventions and maintain organized records for review.

11. Engage in professional development opportunities to enhance skills and meet job expectations.

12. Perform additional duties as assigned.

MEASUREMENT OF SUCCESS:

The effectiveness of this position will be evaluated based on:

1. Knowledge and adherence to relevant program procedures.

2. Accurate and up-to-date record-keeping.

3. Maintenance of a safe and healthy environment for children.

4. Positive outcomes for children and families in alignment with program objectives.

WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

• The ability to lift and/or move up to 40 pounds is required.

• Daily outdoor work is expected.

• Quick mobility to respond to emergencies is essential.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • AA degree or equivalent coursework; Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Proficient communication skills in English; bilingual or multilingual candidates are preferred.
  • Two years of experience as an instructional assistant or in a related educational role.
  • Experience working with diverse families and children.
  • Ability to manage time effectively in a dynamic environment.
  • Commitment to confidentiality regarding child information.
  • Completion of required health and safety training.
  • Valid California Driver's License and proof of insurance required.
