Role Summary:
This position is essential for the smooth operation of the Audiology Clinic. Responsibilities include assisting with medical billing, coding, and collections, as well as providing exceptional customer service to patients. Key tasks involve answering phones, scheduling appointments, checking in patients, maintaining electronic medical records, and executing other assigned duties.
Reporting Structure: Reports to the Director of Audiology Clinic
Key Responsibilities:
- Facilitate scheduling and ensure efficient clinic operations, confirming that patients are appropriately scheduled and all necessary documentation is prepared prior to visits.
- Conduct insurance eligibility and benefit verifications before patient appointments. Understand billing processes for both insurance and private pay. Calculate payment amounts due for visits or hearing aid services. Process payments from patients and various insurance providers.
- Assist in submitting prior authorizations and referral requests on behalf of patients, following up on any denials received.
- Establish electronic medical records in accordance with clinic licensing standards, ensuring compliance with the Department of Public Health and all contracted insurance requirements.
- Collaborate with the Revenue Cycle Manager to manage past due collections for patients.
- Support front desk operations, which may include answering calls, scheduling appointments, verifying insurance, checking patients in and out, collecting payments, managing inventory, and performing general clerical duties.
- Maintain accurate and current patient records and a database of referring physicians.
Qualifications:
- Certification in medical billing and coding or equivalent experience
- Strong understanding and experience with ICD-10 and CPT coding
- Knowledge of reimbursement and collections processes
- Adherence to HIPAA regulations and organizational policies
- Excellent analytical, verbal, and written communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy
- Experience with practice management software
- Adaptable, self-motivated, organized, and a team player
- Some proficiency in American Sign Language or a willingness to learn
Physical Requirements:
Must be capable of performing all job-related duties, including frequent lifting of up to 25 pounds, bending, reaching overhead, climbing stairs, pulling, typing, and prolonged periods of standing or sitting.
