Role Summary

The Senior IT Support Specialist is responsible for overseeing and maintaining the computer systems of the Milwaukee Water Works (MWW), focusing on either the information technology (IT) or operational technology (OT) infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

HARDWARE AND SOFTWARE DEPLOYMENT AND UPGRADES

Both Roles:
  • Upgrade and maintain servers, workstations, printers, wireless routers, and other networking equipment.
  • Keep thorough documentation of network maintenance, hardware and software inventories, and licensing.
Information Technology:
  • Implement and support computer network hardware and software, including system updates on the IT network.
Operational Technology:
  • Manage computer network hardware and software implementation, system support, and updates on the SCADA network.
  • Support SCADA applications, including Rockwell FactoryTalk and related software.
  • Assist with physical security applications and cybersecurity measures.
HELP DESK OPERATIONS

Both Roles:
  • Oversee and engage in help desk operations for MWW.
  • Diagnose and resolve network issues to ensure continuous availability.
  • Provide technical training and support to users.
APPLICATIONS AND SYSTEM ADMINISTRATION

Both Roles:
  • Manage user access within Windows Active Directory and other applications.
  • Document and maintain system procedures.
Information Technology:
  • Support the City’s email and ERP systems.
Operational Technology:
  • Assist with the City’s email system and financial management systems.
RESEARCH AND PLANNING

Both Roles:
  • Research new technologies and recommend purchases for budgeting.
Information Technology:
  • Supervise IT Support Specialists, directing work and providing training.

Conditions of Employment

The Senior IT Support Specialist must be prepared to:
  • Participate in an on-call schedule for emergencies.
  • Lift and move objects as required.
  • Travel to various field sites for equipment transport and tasks.
Minimum Qualifications

  1. Bachelor's degree in a relevant field from an accredited institution.
  2. Two years of experience in systems administration within a Tier 2 IT support environment.
Desirable Qualifications
  • Experience with enterprise applications, particularly in HR or financial systems.
  • Relevant certifications in systems engineering or network administration.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Technical:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Active Directory and SCADA systems.
  • Familiar with various operating systems and application software.
Communication:
  • Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to explain technical information clearly to diverse audiences.
Judgment and Responsibility:
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
