Legal Operations Project Coordinator

The Legal Operations Project Coordinator (LOPC) plays a crucial role in supporting client-focused projects to ensure the effective execution of legal service delivery strategies. This position collaborates with all practice groups and significantly influences efficiency, quality, profitability, competitive standing, and client satisfaction. The LOPC will engage with legal and business professionals both internally and externally, helping to structure and enhance the Pricing and Legal Project Management team's capabilities to provide direction, analytics, and coordination for legal engagements undertaken by the firm's attorneys. Maintaining professionalism and strict confidentiality in all client and firm matters is paramount.

Key Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned as necessary. Essential functions are primary job duties that an individual must be able to perform successfully with or without reasonable accommodation.

  • Assist legal teams in delivering legal services for complex, high-profile client projects using project management methodologies and tools.
  • Provide project management oversight, principles, methodologies, and tools as defined by legal teams and practice groups for both internal and client-facing projects across various subject matter areas.
  • Establish and implement best practices in legal project management for scoping, budgeting, monitoring, and communication throughout the engagement lifecycle.
  • Offer training and guidance on the principles and advantages of legal project management to all key stakeholder groups, including clients, the firm, and attorneys.
  • Manage assigned projects and related activities to ensure resources are allocated effectively to produce planned deliverables on time and within scope and budget.
  • Collaborate closely with attorneys to support and guide the project team in defining and achieving business objectives aligned with client needs.
  • Oversee the project scope management process to ensure key stakeholders are informed of scope change requests and their impact on the project.
  • Coordinate with the Pricing team to ensure that insights and efficiency opportunities are integrated into ongoing pricing strategies.
  • Work with team resources to plan custom solutions and oversee the design, planning, and implementation of client-facing technical or process solutions.
  • Adhere to policies, procedures, and documentation established for the Pricing and Legal Project Management departments.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Train legal teams and clients on the implementation and fundamentals of legal project management.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by the Director of Pricing and Legal Project Management.
Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's degree is required; a J.D., M.B.A., or PMP certification is preferred. A minimum of 5 years of experience in law firm or legal operations is required, with three years of formal project management experience strongly preferred; or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Understanding of project estimation and management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle is essential.
  • Ability to learn new technologies, tools, and platforms.
  • Advanced proficiency in the Microsoft Office suite, particularly Excel, Access, and PowerPoint, with strong analytical skills in Excel for data analysis.
  • Experience with SQL and Microsoft SharePoint is a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to work across functional teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, with the ability to engage with courtesy, diplomacy, and discretion.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and project management skills, including record keeping and data collection.
  • Highly motivated with a strategic focus, understanding firm goals, services, culture, and strategy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
  • Dependable team player with high energy and creativity, capable of working collaboratively.
  • Excellent analytical and technical skills, with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Work may occasionally require more than standard hours to fulfill essential duties.
