The Laboratory Manager will be responsible for overseeing all functions of the Laboratory Department and conducting tests within a Critical Access Hospital. Key duties include executing diagnostic assessments, leading staff, managing financial resources, ensuring quality control, sourcing materials, negotiating agreements, selecting and maintaining laboratory apparatus, adhering to regulatory standards, upholding policies and procedures, and managing laboratory billing and coding.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Conduct diagnostic testing procedures for the identification and treatment of diseases
  • Supervise laboratory staff members
  • Manage budgets and ensure quality assurance processes
  • Source supplies and negotiate contracts with vendors
  • Select, purchase, and maintain laboratory equipment
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory bodies
  • Maintain laboratory policies, procedures, and billing/coding practices

Essential Requirements:

  • Adheres to professional dress code; maintains a neat and clean appearance
  • Completes annual organizational and job-specific training requirements
  • Meets all regulatory obligations
  • Displays identification while on duty
  • Participates in staff meetings and reviews all meeting notes
  • Reports to work punctually and as scheduled; completes tasks within designated timeframes
  • Maintains confidentiality of employee and patient information
  • Represents the organization in a positive and professional manner
  • Engages in departmental performance improvement initiatives
  • Embodies the mission, ethics, and objectives of the organization and departmental Scope of Service
  • Communicates courteously, respectfully, and helpfully with patients, visitors, families, and colleagues
  • Ensures a clean, safe, and accident-free work environment

Qualifications:

  • Education:
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology
  • Licensure/Certifications:
  • Certification from the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
  • Current Health Care Licensure in the State of Washington
  • Experience:
  • At least five (5) years of experience in a clinical laboratory within an acute care hospital (in non-waived testing)
  • One year of supervisory experience
  • Meets CLIA classifications: Technical supervisor (high complexity testing) for all areas excluding immunohematology; General supervisor (high complexity testing) for immunohematology
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Three years of experience in laboratory management
  • Experience with regulatory compliance and accreditation of laboratory operations
  • Familiarity with the Cerner electronic health record system
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish
